Can You Enter Every Building in GTA 6?

Every mainline GTA game has increased player freedom in one way or another, including how much of the world players can actually interact with. Red Dead Redemption 2, despite not having a predominantly urban world, still featured a huge number of enterable buildings. With GTA 6, Rockstar appears to be taking that interactivity even further, but can you actually enter every single building in GTA 6? Here’s what we know.

What Rockstar Has Said About Enterable Buildings in GTA 6

According to Rockstar’s Rob Nelson, in an interview with French publication TroisCouleurs, GTA 6 features an enormous number of buildings you can enter. When asked about the game’s interiors, Nelson said, “You can enter many buildings. A lot of them. The number is enormous.” While he didn’t provide an exact figure, it gives us a good indication of how much emphasis Rockstar has placed on enterable buildings in GTA 6, especially compared with past entries.

We’ve already seen Jason and Lucia rob a number of convenience stores, jewelry shops, and gas stations in the Extended Look and trailers, while apartments and safehouses show off some of the most detailed interiors we’ve seen in a Rockstar game so far. Jason and Lucia can visit nightclubs, banks, unique clothing stores, gyms, saloons, bars, motels, vehicle mod shops, restaurants, convenience stores, gas stations, jewelry stores, zoos, and much more.

Being able to enter a building doesn’t necessarily mean every part of it will have something to interact with. However, Rockstar has already shown interiors used for much more than walking around, with Jason and Lucia able to rob businesses, shop, socialize, make purchases, trigger unique interactions, and take part in activities specific to each location.

It’s also important to distinguish between buildings that have interiors and buildings that are freely accessible. Rockstar has shown several locations with detailed interiors in its promotional material, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you can enter every one at any time during free roam. Some may be tied to specific missions, activities, or interactions.

Rockstar hasn’t revealed exactly how many buildings will be enterable in GTA 6, nor have they provided a percentage. Any specific figure circulating online should therefore be treated with caution and a huge grain of salt unless it can be traced back to an official source. For now, Rob Nelson’s “the number is enormous” is the closest thing we have to an official answer.

While entering every single building won’t be possible in GTA 6, many establishments and buildings across the open world will have interactive, accessible interiors. It’s an incredible technical achievement, especially on current-generation hardware that doesn’t exactly have the most powerful CPUs anymore. Rockstar is clearly putting a lot of effort into making the world feel more interactive than ever, and an accessible open world of this magnitude makes it far more impressive than mere background dressing.
