GTA 6 Weather System Explained – Confirmed and Rumored Weather Events

There are plenty of rumors flying around about the weather system we can expect in GTA 6. However, with so much misinformation around the web, and even more so-called “leaks” being disproven every time Rockstar releases more information, it can be hard to sift through it all and draw a reasonable picture.

Hence, we’ve sifted through all we could find, and in this article, we’ll separate fact from fiction as best we can. Whenever Rockstar releases more confirmed info, we’ll be sure to update this article, so do check back if the prospective GTA 6 weather system interests you.

Confirmed Weather Events GTA 6

We have precious little that Rockstar has confirmed in terms of the weather system, but we do know that Rockstar has upgraded its RAGE (Rockstar Advanced Games Engine), and it now allows for way better, physically-based lighting and volumetric weather effects. In other words, it has the potential for real-time clouds, fog, and rain to appear and interact with lighting realistically.

We’ve already seen some of this in trailers and leaks, but this doesn’t exactly confirm what types of weather conditions we’ll have in the game. However, we can pretty confidently say that we’ll have sunshine, and we’ll have rain. Beyond that, we’ll have to wait and see.

In Trailer 1, many claim there is evidence of flooding and chaotic weather events, but apart from this scene pictured above, I haven’t found anything super concrete. There is a lot of water on the road here, but further away, it seems dry. Hence, that water is likely from the water barrels that the crashed car hit.

There’s also a lot of water visible just off the roadway, pictured above. However, if this is in the Leonida Keys, or simply going over a river, then that’s just a body of water – not a flood. During a flood, you would imagine that large puddles of water would have collected on the roadway by now (it’s Rockstar, its attention to detail is legendary). So, as for the “evidence” of in-game floods, we can safely debunk that for now.

It is, however, heavily rumored that GTA 6 will feature a “real” weather system that can cause damage to vegetation and structures, and actually affect the world and gameplay. And while we saw some pretty crazy weather effects in RDR 2, it’s not that much of a stretch to imagine something even better in GTA 6.

Rumors include flash floods, hurricanes, and lightning storms that can disrupt “everyday life” for both the player and the NPCs.

None of this is even remotely proven, however. There are several screenshots on the official GTA 6 website where excess water seems to be present, but given that they are still screenshots, it’s extremely difficult to judge. Most of the bodies of water we can see seem to be permanent, and not the result of flooding.

In Truth, Nothing is Confirmed Yet

We have had precious little information from Rockstar on GTA 6, and apart from some heavy guesses on the trailers, we don’t really know much of anything right now. This article is a work in progress, however, and we’ll update it whenever we can, without a doubt, confirm a specific feature about the game.
