Rainbow Six Siege Boss Admits GTA 6 Will Hurt the Game, But Ubisoft Has a Plan

While games such as Rainbow Six Siege have successfully stood the test of time, GTA 6 is expected to overtake the gaming scene, at least for some months. Because of this, those live-action and multiplayer games that depend on constantly returning players will likely suffer huge revenue losses.

One of those games is Rainbow Six Siege. According to Joshua Mills, the new Creative Director of Rainbow Six Siege at Ubisoft, the launch of GTA 6 will definitely hurt Rainbow Six Siege. He acknowledged that the game will hurt player numbers across the industry, since countless players will be tuning in to experience a single-player game. He added that Siege expects players to return once GTA 6’s launch period is over.

However, that doesn’t mean that Ubisoft will be waiting for players to return. Those who stay will apparently be taken care of and treated like “kings and queens.” It’s currently unknown what exactly this means, but it wouldn’t be surprising if consistent players are able to take advantage of some freebies or huge discounts around GTA 6’s launch period.

Not to mention, Rainbow Six Siege will also release Season Four around the same time as GTA 6’s launch. Ubisoft is apparently holding unannounced surprises specifically to make an impact during that period, likely to ensure that it can hold as many players as possible around GTA 6’s launch.

Even Rainbow Six Siege Expects GTA 6 to Steal Players

Unlike game series that release new entries annually, Rainbow Six Siege has been a cornerstone of the professional gaming scene for years now. The fact that the game completely expects GTA 6’s launch to hurt its numbers speaks volumes about the game’s impact.

Other games that will likely suffer because of GTA 6 include the likes of Fortnite and Counter-Strike 2, which are both games that usually capture a decent number of players each year. The kicker is that all of this will happen while the single-player campaign of GTA 6 launches. It’s anyone’s guess how much multiplayer and live-service games will suffer when GTA 6’s multiplayer mode drops.
