The Death of GTA Online and RDR 2’s Immersive World in GTA 6

FROM THE DESK OF KYLE

We’re Into Double Digits!

Double digit days until GTA 6. Double digits! We have just over three months to go now before we can finally immerse ourselves in Rockstar’s latest creation, and the closer it gets, the more impatient I become.

What’s more, in just 13 days, we get an extended look at GTA 6 as well, and will probably witness the longest, if not the greatest, game trailer of all time. But that’s all ahead of us.

This week, I discuss the death of GTA Online, a rather silly rumor, and a double-feature banger of the week that might surprise you. Stay safe out there, and keep your tinfoil hat handy in the coming months.

— Kyle.

THE HOTTEST NEWS THIS WEEK

The Death of GTA Online

This week has been quiet on the news front, with all eyes on the 27 August extended GTA 6 trailer. So I’ll use this opportunity to highlight some writing we did around GTA 6 Online.

The first major question, which I attempted to answer coherently in my article on the subject, is whether the current version of GTA Online will be scrapped once GTA 6 hits the shelves, and you may be thankful to hear that’s it a pretty convincing “no.”

The short version: Strauss Zelnick stated that they would continue support for GTA Online for as long as it made sense, and with the insane price of current-gen consoles at the moment, I anticipate many will stick to GTA Online for quite some time. We’ll likely retain access to our hard-earned riches in the game for years to come still.

Ali also had something to say on whether we would get any GTA 6 Online news any time soon, and again, the answer is a very likely no. For the moment, Take-Two seems happy to focus fully on GTA 6 instead of its Online version.

My honest guess here is that we’ll see plenty of rapid-fire marketing starting after the 19 November release, and leading up to the actual launch of GTA 6 Online.

FROM REDDIT / THE COMMUNITY

The Portuguese Netflix site displayed Placeholders of 3 WHOLE EPISODES for the “Extended Look” at GTA VI on August 27th This could POTENTIALLY mean 3 FULL in depth looks at VARIOUS aspects of GTA VI, with a total runtime of over 1 hour : r/GTA6unmoderated

HOT OR NOT

Rumors of the Week

Believe at your own risk.

NOT

The GTA VI Extended Look Split Across Three Episodes, Total Run Time of an Hour

I found this rumor on Reddit, which we all know is a hotbed for legitimate, verified information (he says sarcastically). I really enjoy the GTA 6 Unmoderated Reddit community, some of those posts genuinely make me laugh out loud.

But every time something like this surfaces, I can’t help but roll my eyes. There have been quite a few leaks from random countries, and they always turn out to be false. I mean, the Best-Buy leak does come to mind, but we also had some European country’s stores “leak” information too, which turned out totally false.

I have absolutely zero faith in this rumor, and I firmly believe we’ll be getting a 20-odd minute trailer, and nothing more.

I’ve added this rumor on our website, though, so go ahead and cast your vote. Think there’s any stock in it?

BANGER OF THE WEEK

Grand Theft Auto San Andreas (Official Theme Song)

Michael Hunter · 2004 · GTA San Andreas

Last week, I highlighted a song from the original Vice City, but this week, we’re off to the West Coast for a double-feature. First, I’d like to highlight the original theme song. It’s a real proper beat, and if it doesn’t make you move at least a little, you may not have a soul.

Sounds like a real West-Coast-Classic, huh? You may be surprised to know that Michael Hunter, the composer, is actually Scottish, and the track was created in Glasgow, Scotland.

That sure surprised me, but there’s more.

Did you know that Young Malay, the voice actor for CJ, also dropped a rap over this beat? It’s great, and here it is:

So there you have it, a double-feature this week, even though it’s technically the same song. Hope you learned something, I know I did.

SCREENSHOTS OF THE WEEK

Screenshots of the Week

I was going to cover this week’s image last time, but then we had that banger announcement and beautiful new art. So this week, I’m back with this shot of Mount Kalaga National Park.

Some of the textures in this image look a bit cheap, but it’s more about the road curving through the rocky, verdant landscape. It gives me hope that we’ll have a large expanse of natural landscape to explore, and I can certainly see myself getting lost on these country roads, jamming to whatever’s on the radio.
