The Royal Jewellers kiosk at Treasure Coast Square Mall was caught off guard when employees noticed some chains missing. The kiosk is close to the mall’s entrance, which made it easier for the alleged robber to make off with the gold. Not to mention, the entrance itself is in Jensen Beach, which is constantly filled to the brim with people.

As for how the robbery happened, the alleged robber approached the counter and asked the employees to see multiple expensive chain options. After evaluating them for a couple of seconds, he promptly returned everything before leaving the store and walking away. He returned shortly to tell the kiosk’s employees that his girlfriend thought the chains he had seen previously were too expensive, and that he would like to see some cheaper options.

When the employee reached for a new display while already holding multiple chains, the alleged robber grabbed the entire display and ran away. The entrance was already nearby, so he was able to quickly get out. Video surveillance showed him heading south on Federal Highway. Unfortunately for him, he dropped a pair of sunglasses while he was running, which ultimately led to him getting arrested.

A Week Of Freedom Was All He Had Left

The sheriff’s office stated that the alleged robber made away with more than $22,000 worth of gold, which is the amount of money that gamers would steal in a GTA game’s heist. He allegedly stole nine necklaces, out of which three were recovered. This left six chains still missing, valued at nearly $13,000.

Fingerprints at the crime scene matched 25-year-old Dezmone Johnson. Johnson allegedly already had an open felony warrant out for probation violation at the time of the robbery and was spotted the day after the robbery at a pawn shop. The authorities clearly wanted him to struggle in court, because Sheriff John Budensiek explained that they used his fingerprints and a tag from the car in a description to properly get a case together.

Johnson was later arrested a little over a week after the robbery, which also likely had to be properly organized. After all, the sheriff stated that the alleged robber had an extensive criminal history, including arrests involving firearm charges and resisting.
