The honor system in RDR 2 gave us the opportunity to mould Arthur the way we wanted. Whether you wanted an evil Arthur or a good one, your actions in the game would change your reputation and, by extension, how others react to you in the world.
GTA 6 is set to be more realistic than GTA 5, and one of the questions we had before the recent wave of information from Rockstar is whether GTA 6 would feature an honor system like RDR 2. The short answer is yes, but it’s not so simple. Here’s all the info you need about GTA 6’s honor system.
The Criminal Profile
In GTA 6, the honor system is called your Criminal Profile. We’ve had videos from TGG and articles by IGN that shed varying amounts of information obtained from the previews at Rockstar, and we now have a fair idea of how this system is set to work.
If you’re a “bad criminal,” killing people for no reason or being unnecessarily violent, your criminal profile drops. This changes how others in the world react to you. We don’t have exact details of what this looks like, but you can imagine NPCs recognizing you from in-game social media as “that psycho killer” or something, and making a point of avoiding you.

This criminal profile could also change the way story characters react to you, earning you respect, straight fear, or even disrespect.
Be a more professional criminal, executing smooth robberies without unnecessary loss of life, and your profile goes up.
But dip too low, and you could reach the “point of no return,” as confirmed by Rob Nelson. From this point forward, there’s no coming back, and your criminal profile will stay at rock bottom.
Can You Ignore the Criminal Profile System?
Rob Nelson did confirm in the previews that players can choose to simply ignore the criminal profile system and play however they want. Obviously, there will still be consequences, but you won’t actually be able to break the game in any way.
It’s quite similar to the romance system in GTA 6, where players have a choice on whether to engage with it or not. Many of the systems in GTA 6 have this element of player choice, so whether you want to play it realistically or be a good old homicidal maniac is entirely up to you.
I’m looking forward to this more realistic take on Vice City and GTA, but I do hope none of the systems end up getting in the way of having a good time. When the mood strikes, I’m sure we could always just drop a save before a rampage and reload it once we’ve had our fill.
