Florida Dad Leaves 5 Kids Alone, Resulting in 3-Year-Old Wandering Onto Busy Road

On Friday, October 2, 2026, a bystander found a 3-year-old child walking barefoot along a busy roadway in the University area of Tampa, Florida. The witness not only got the child to safety but also contacted the authorities, as any good Samaritan would. Naturally, the deputies decided to start looking for the child’s home.

It took a while, but the police ultimately found the child’s residence. The identifying factor was that the house’s door was wide open, and entering the house revealed that the toddler wasn’t the only child who had been left without an adult supervisor. In fact, four additional children were inside the home, meaning five children in total were living in the house without an adult nearby.

This wasn’t the only issue, as the youngest children reportedly were wearing soiled diapers. Things took an even more dangerous turn when police discovered the kitchen stove was on and smoking, meaning even a small accident could have caused a fire or something even worse.

The children’s mother was reportedly at work during that time, though the authorities did learn that the father was supposed to be taking care of the children. However, the father was not at the house when the police arrived, though he did ultimately return while the authorities were still investigating.

While it’s unknown how long the children had been left unsupervised, the authorities did identify the father as 41-year-old Glenn Jones. The fortunate thing is that none of the children reportedly had any physical injuries, though that doesn’t mean that Jones was off the hook.

The Father Was Arrested and Charged

Jones was immediately arrested and charged with five counts of child neglect, one for each child. This wasn’t all, as he was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail and was being held on a $25,000 bond.

As for the children, they were removed from the immediate situation. They were placed into protective care while the police investigated the matter further. After all, the mother may not have been the immediate supervisor of the children at that time, but the authorities still had to investigate her to ensure things would be smooth for the children going forward.
