Residents and the authorities over at Hillsborough County, Florida, had a rather eventful Friday morning. Everything started when a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputy clocked a white Toyota Corolla Cross doing 75 mph in a 50-mph zone. This was at 1:42 am and on State Road 60.

It’s only natural that the deputy decided to activate his emergency lights and siren. The alleged suspect initially appeared to pull toward the shoulder, but then he reportedly started accelerating and took off. An FHP trooper joined the deputy in the pursuit, but that’s where things got a little out of hand.

The alleged suspect was later identified as Malcolm Amonde Reid. He apparently pushed his Corolla Cross to more than 120 MPH, driving around other vehicles on the highway at an extremely high speed. According to the trooper, Reid came dangerously close to hitting other cars during the pursuit, though nothing happened.

The authorities ultimately decided to attempt a PIT maneuver, but Reid continued driving until he reached Oak Hill Village Circle. Reid abruptly pressed the brakes and attempted to turn, but it resulted in his vehicle hitting a raised median and a traffic sign. The alleged suspect likely realized he was in too deep at this point, so he decided to continue driving and enter the westbound lanes of State Road 60 while traveling east.

Driving on a one-way road is already dangerous, but Reid was also speeding. The authorities knew they had to do something quickly, so they performed another PIT maneuver that actually worked and forced the vehicle off the roadway and into a ditch.

Reid Clearly Didn’t Want to Get Caught

Instead of realizing that this was literally the end of the road, Reid decided to attempt to run toward State Road 60 and St. Cloud Avenue on foot. The authorities chased him, and the trooper from before deployed a taser. The probe reportedly struck Reid in the thigh and back, allowing the authorities to finally apprehend him.

Reid was taken to the hospital but was discharged in mere hours, after which he was taken to jail. He was charged with aggravated fleeing to elude, leaving the scene of an accident involving unattended property, resisting an officer without violence, and driving without a valid license. In particular, the aggravated fleeing charge is listed as a second-degree felony.
