Florida Liquor Store Michael Myers Robbery Falls Apart After Clerk Is Caught Laughing on Camera

Deputies at a Citrus Liquor Store responded on September 20, 2026, after 46-year-old Renee Lynn Bedford reported that an armed man wearing a Michael Myers mask had robbed the store and fled with cash. Unfortunately, this is fairly common in Inverness, Florida, where the store is located.

According to Bedford, the alleged suspect was a black man in his 30s, which already raised a couple of suspicions. After all, it’s already hard to gauge the race of someone who’s wearing a mask, but it’s even tougher to determine their age. The fact that Bedford was so confident in saying both of these things raised some red flags in the eyes of the authorities. It may have been this that pushed them to check out the store’s surveillance footage.

Oddly enough, the footage reportedly showed that Bedford was laughing during the alleged robbery. Considering the fact that Bedford already said that the alleged suspect was armed, it would be odd for anyone to laugh at such a situation. If this wasn’t enough, the footage also clearly revealed that the actual robber was white, contradicting Bedford’s description of the apparent perpetrator.

A tip through Citrus County Crime Stoppers pointed the authorities toward 47-year-old Richard Benson Lassiter, who was easily found and caught. However, he didn’t want to go alone. He stated that Bedford had actually suggested that Lassiter robbed the store, even giving information about the store’s cameras and cash deposits. While Bedford naturally denied any involvement in the matter, the security footage was enough to give the authorities reason to arrest her.

Things just got even worse for Bedford here, as it was revealed that she was in possession of bags containing fentanyl and methamphetamine, along with drug paraphernalia. It’s safe to say that Bedford was up to some shady business.

The Partners in Crime Faced Varying Charges

It’s only natural that both Bedford and Lassiter would face charges. Bedford faced charges for:

  • Principal to armed robbery
  • Principal to grand theft
  • Possession of fentanyl
  • Possession of methamphetamine
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

On the other hand, Lassiter faced charges for:

  • Robbery with a firearm
  • Grand theft

Commenters were quick to point out that the duo was clearly in over their head. While they attempted to rob a store like they were the protagonists of Grand Theft Auto 6, their lack of planning and clear foolishness in laughing in front of the camera, knowing they were there, were ultimately their downfall.
