A couple in Wimauma met up with someone who they thought was interested in buying their laptop. The meeting place was set at a gas station at 16620 US Highway 301. The three met with each other when the supposed buyer asked to hold the laptop. This isn’t anything unusual, since buyers will naturally want to check anything before buying it. Unfortunately for the sellers, that’s when things started going downhill.
The person who posed as a buyer took the item and fled the scene. Frozen in shock and disbelief, the sellers could only watch as they realized that they hadn’t been paid. This is when things started looking less like a robbery and more like a GTA mission involving clues, a helicopter, and a final chase to wrap things up.
While searching for the suspect, the local deputies found that the sliding door of a townhouse close to the meeting point was open. Upon entering the townhouse, they found what appeared to be the same hoodie the suspect was wearing during the theft. This was more than enough for the deputies to start setting a perimeter around the area.

The local Aviation Unit utilized their helicopter to scope the area. The good news is that they quickly spotted the suspect walking on Nebula Court. That too, while carrying a backpack that was big enough to hold the stolen laptop. Officers were called to the scene, and while the suspect attempted to flee on foot, he was ultimately apprehended. He did say that the officers were chasing him for “no reason,” but there was plenty of video evidence to make him the prime suspect of the crime.
Viewers Had Plenty to Say About the Suspect’s Getaway
A good majority of the commenters on the post made on the official Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page agreed that the buyer looked suspicious from the start. Wearing a hoodie in such intense heat should apparently have been enough for the sellers to suspect that something was going to be wrong.
Not to mention, the alleged thief was wearing all-black clothes in the heat, making it hard for anyone to recognize him. The other half of the comment section was seemingly praising the local deputies for such a smooth job, especially since it’s extremely easy to get away with something as small as a laptop.
