42-year-old Shannon Marie Dillon clearly didn’t think things through when she allegedly stole a marked Broward Sheriff’s Office Dodge Charger from the public parking area. This incident happened around 9 PM on September 22 and was at the BSO Public Safety Building, so that already shows how high the stakes were. The kicker is that the stakes were high for almost no reason.

Shannon drove the cruiser roughly 90 to 100 miles north into St. Lucie County. However, she ultimately abandoned the vehicle on the I-95 exit ramp at Gatlin Boulevard around 9:40 PM, roughly forty minutes after allegedly stealing it in the first place. If things already seem weird, then they’re about to get even weirder.

The deputies naturally found the abandoned cruiser and started searching the area around it. While they eventually did find Shannon, she was wearing an outer ballistic vest with Broward Sheriff’s Office insignia. Detectives believed Shannon’s entire plan was to impersonate an authority figure, even if her approach was less than ideal.

The police had reason to believe that Shannon may also be in possession of a firearm. Because of this, multiple agencies had to establish a perimeter to ensure she couldn’t get away. The police then deployed a K9 and drone when she didn’t get on the ground after being ordered to.

Shannon’s Arrest Was Caught On Video

The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office released the official arrest video on their official social accounts. CBS also obtained and reported the footage, with the bodycam showing the time when the authorities surrounded Shannon. One deputy clearly asked her to get on the ground because they believed she could have a firearm.

The video also shows another deputy saying that Shannon would get “dog bit” if she moved, showing how seriously the authorities had to take this incident. Stealing a vehicle is already a crime, but thinking you could get away with a police cruiser is something that many commenters think is beyond delusional.
