GTA 6 on PC – What Rockstar Has Said So Far

GTA 6 is on track to launch on PS5 and Xbox Series S|X on November 19, 2026. After plenty of speculation, rumors, and lack of communication, Take-Two confirmed that, like previous major Rockstar releases, GTA 6 will be targeting consoles at launch. But where does that leave the PC version, and what has the publisher said so far? Here’s everything you need to know.

Why GTA 6 Isn’t Coming to PC at Launch

Strauss Zelnick told Bloomberg in early May 2026, at the Interactive Innovation Conference, that GTA 6 won’t come to PC at launch and explained that Rockstar continues to prioritize consoles because that’s where its core audience is.

Rockstar always starts on console because I think with regard to a release like that you’re judged by serving the core. Like really serving the core consumer. If your core consumer isn’t there, if they’re not served first and best, you kind of don’t hit your other consumers

This aligns with GTA’s sales and its audience’s spending habits, with consoles representing a significant portion of the franchise’s player base, particularly for in-game spending.

While it isn’t specific to GTA, Take-Two’s Fiscal First Quarter 2027 report revealed that mobile accounted for the largest share of net revenue by platform at 50%, while consoles increased from 37% to 42% year over year. Meanwhile, PC and other platforms declined from 10% to 8%. From a broader perspective, this suggests that PC remains a smaller part of Take-Two’s overall business compared to consoles and mobile.

Technically, targeting current-generation consoles also lets Rockstar ensure it can deliver a performant experience on specific hardware, rather than having to account for the many possible PC configurations. The PC version can then be further optimized and scaled for the platform after the console release.

Rockstar Games’ PC Release Timeline

GameOriginal Console ReleasePC ReleasePC Gap Period
GTA 3October 22, 2001May 20, 2002~7 months
GTA Vice CityOctober 29, 2002May 12, 2003~6.5 months
GTA San AndreasOctober 26, 2004June 7, 2005~7.5 months
GTA 4April 29, 2008December 2, 2008~7 months
GTA 5September 17, 2013April 14, 2015~19 months
Red Dead Redemption 2October 26, 2018November 5, 2019~13 months

The longest gap between console and PC release is for GTA 5, roughly 19 months, while Red Dead Redemption 2 made it to PC in 13 months. If GTA 6 follows a similar timeline, its PC version could potentially arrive sometime between late 2027 and early 2028.

Will GTA 6 Eventually Launch on PC?

While Rockstar hasn’t officially confirmed a PC version of GTA 6, there is little reason to believe it will skip the platform entirely. Both GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 eventually came to PC and were incredibly successful on the platform, continuing to contribute to their overall sales.

A large PC audience is also dying to play GTA 6, especially since a PC version will offer higher graphical settings, unlocked frame rates, and other technical improvements beyond what the limited specs of current-generation consoles can provide.
