Grand Theft Auto 6 is almost certainly the biggest entertainment release of the decade and the most anticipated game of the last five years since its reveal in 2022. Rockstar is one of the few studios that does not rely on third-party platforms to share updates, and GTA 6 is no different, with trailers and release dates announced entirely on their own terms.
Here is a complete timeline of every release window, confirmed date, and eventual delay for Grand Theft Auto 6, along with its latest release date.
First Trailer and Initial Release Window – [05/12/2023]
The first trailer for GTA 6 debuted on December 5, 2023, breaking major viewership records in a matter of hours. It also mentioned 2025 as the release year for GTA 6, with no specific release date.

This marked the first time Rockstar publicly announced a release window, despite confirming the game’s development as early as 2022.
First Delay Announcement – [02/05/2025]
Rockstar announced on May 2, 2025, that GTA 6 was delayed from 2025 to May 26, 2026, stating that they needed additional time to exceed player expectations and deliver a high-quality experience.
Second Delay Announcement – [06/11/2025]
In November 2025, Rockstar announced another delay for GTA 6, moving its release date from May 26, 2026, to November 19, 2026, citing polish as the main reason for the extra time.
GTA 6 Current Release Date
As of writing, GTA 6 is set to release on November 19, 2026.
There have been two delays since the original announcement so far. The current release date has been unchanged since November 5, 2025.
GTA 6 Confirmed Platforms
GTA 6 has been confirmed to release on PS5 and Xbox Series S|X.
Both platforms were explicitly mentioned in the original newswire post for the first trailer, are clearly shown in the second trailer, and have been listed on the official website ever since.

Rockstar also confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that the second trailer was recorded entirely on a standard PlayStation 5.
Despite solid PC sales, consoles remain the primary platforms for the studio and serve as the baseline for the experience. You can wishlist the title on the platforms at the following links:
| Platform | Store Link |
|---|---|
| PS5 | PlayStation Store |
| Xbox Series S|X | Microsoft Store |
The console versions will likely target 30 FPS, but it may be possible to achieve a higher framerate or better overall visual clarity with less aggressive upscaling on the PS5 Pro version. It will be interesting to see how the title leverages the improved hardware, whether for fidelity or performance.
Will GTA 6 Be Delayed Again?
Rockstar delayed both Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 multiple times following their original announcements. As such, delays are not unusual within the company’s release cycle. While another postponement for GTA 6 remains possible, there is also a strong chance Rockstar will stick to the November 19, 2026, release date, with confidence recently reinforced by Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick in investor conference statements and interviews.
That said, anything can happen, and Rockstar works on its own terms and timeline, meaning a delay remains possible if the studio feels the game is not in the state it wants for launch.
Why was GTA 6 delayed?
Rockstar Games has stated that delays were made to improve quality, polish, and overall gameplay experience in order to meet internal standards and player expectations. Their language has remained consistent across both delays, reflecting a continued focus on delivering a refined experience on current-generation hardware, including PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
GTA 6 PC Version
Like GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA 6 is skipping PC at launch. Neither a Steam nor an Epic Games Store logo is visible in either trailer. The official website lists only the PS5 and Xbox Series S|X as launch platforms and includes direct links to their store wishlist pages.
However, Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive consider PC a main platform and have continued to support it with eventual releases for both GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2. These are not simple ports, offering higher graphical fidelity, improved frame rates, and additional features compared to their console counterparts.

Last year, in an interview with CNBC, Strauss Zelnick affirmed this sentiment by acknowledging PC’s influence and rapid adaptability:
I think it’s moving towards PC and business is moving towards open rather than closed. But if you define console as the property, not the system, then the notion of a very rich game that you engage in for many hours that you play on a big screen—that’s never going away.
While it took nearly two years for GTA V to arrive on PC, Red Dead Redemption 2 made its way to PC in 13 months instead. Every major Rockstar release has eventually come to PC, including the recent remaster of the original Red Dead Redemption. Rockstar also released a free standalone enhanced version of Grand Theft Auto V on PC in March 2025, which included extended ray-tracing features exclusive to the PC version.
If we had to speculate, the PC version of GTA 6 could release around a year after the console launch, making late 2027 a plausible window.
For now, the countdown to November 2026 continues, with Rockstar holding the keys to what could be the most significant game launch of the decade.
