The law is extremely strict when it comes to protecting children, especially babies who can’t walk, let alone protect themselves. 32-year-old Cheyenne Renee Krouse found this out the hard way when she allegedly left her 19-month-old child alone inside a running vehicle outside a Target on Norland Avenue in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.
Everything started around 12:40 on September 28, when someone reportedly found the baby inside the car. The person immediately reported this to the authorities, who quickly arrived at the scene to discover that the car was running with the keys in the ignition. The baby’s mother was reportedly nowhere to be found, though the police didn’t take long to learn why.
Krouse had allegedly gone inside the Target where the car was parked outside. Security footage reportedly showed the mother shopping with a cart in the women’s section. The police asked Target’s staff to make an announcement asking the child’s mother to return to the vehicle. This seemed to have worked, as it only took around ten minutes for Krouse to return to the car.
According to investigators, the mother didn’t intend to return anytime soon if the announcement hadn’t been made, digging her even deeper into the hole she had dug. Naturally, the police decided to arrest her on the spot, charging her with endangering the welfare of a child, a felony.

The Mother Isn’t In Jail Just Yet
Krouse was released on $25,000 unsecured bail, though that doesn’t mean she’s out of hot water just yet. The mother is scheduled to appear at the Franklin County court for Commonwealth v. Krouse, Cheyenne Renee, though the internet has seemingly already deemed her guilty.
According to multiple commenters, Krouse left the baby unsupervised on purpose. It’s unknown how long she would have been inside Target pushing her cart around if the police hadn’t made that announcement, which should be more than enough to raise more than a couple of red flags.
