Steven Adams Has a Warning for Every Pro Athlete Before GTA 6 Drops

Grand Theft Auto 6 is expected to be one of the largest launches of the year, and it makes sense why. GTA 5 was already a massive hit, and multiple players still occasionally hop onto GTA Online to this day. While it has already been rumored that multiple gamers are hoping to take time off of their jobs to play the game, Houston Rockets center Steven Adams says that athletes aren’t safe from this either.

When speaking to a reporter on September 22, 2026, the athlete joked that GTA 6’s November release will cause sports performance to drop across the board. Essentially, he made the point that coaches, players, and even scouts will ultimately be too distracted by GTA 6 to actually focus on any type of sport.

While he started by talking about professional sports in general, he then elaborated by focusing on the NFL and other leagues. He said that fans will watch them plummet during November, though performance will likely return to normal in December. Most of his fans and even the interviewer assumed that the athlete was joking and everyone moved on, but many commenters believe that there’s definitely some truth in what he’s saying.

Will GTA 6 Be More Important Than Professional Sports?

GTA 6 may not be out yet, but the game’s hype is undeniable. The game has a bunch of players hoping to hop on as soon as it comes out, and it’s only natural that some of them are professional athletes as well. Still, whether Steven Adams is actually saying something with merit is fairly debatable.

Some people think that GTA 6 really does have the insane hype that would distract professional athletes for at least a month. On the other hand, others say that the game’s hype doesn’t mean that professional athletes will essentially put their careers on hold just to play a game, no matter how good it may be.
