GTA6 UGC Explained!

GTA 6 UGC (User Generated Content) is any form of player-made goods, levels, and experiences made within the GTA 6 engine. While this aspect of the upcoming game is still under a veil of mystery, there are enough clues to let us know what it’s about. Here’s the latest info on how UGC in GTA 6 will work and how the platform will be structured.

What To Expect From GTA 6 UGC?

We already have titles that transformed themselves into massive platforms for creativity (Fortnite), or ones that did it from the get-go (Roblox). Both of these are pioneers on the scene, and Take-Two Interactive is continuing to grow in that direction as well.

Fortnite and Roblox have unique art styles that let them experiment with visuals and user creativity. Unlike these traditional platforms, GTA focuses on realism in graphics and user experience, which makes all the difference in both the approach to UGC and the freedom that users will have with their generated content.

So, will GTA 6 UGC be more similar in structure to Roblox or Fortnite?

We believe it will lean more towards Fortnite, primarily because of its ambitious graphics. Roblox has a fairly simplistic art direction which allows players to shape UGC assets however they please, but that doesn’t resonate with Rockstar’s tendency to push the boundaries of graphical fidelity.

What’s almost certain is that GTA 6 UGC will revolve largely around custom missions and heists within the Online server. When it comes to unique instances and zones like on Roblox, the boundaries of what’s possible will be determined by the technical limitations.

GTA 6 UGC Engine and Possible Features

Speaking of the technical side, this goes into our next point: the RAGE engine, Rockstar’s in-house engine made to run open-world titles with high fidelity. While the engine itself is powerful, it’s still unclear whether users will have access to its full potential. At this point, it seems more likely that only a fraction of what RAGE can do will be available for UGC purposes, via the (speculated) designated creator tools.

In other words, GTA 6 might prove as a more polished UGC platform, but not as advanced as others, unless Rockstar pulls something extraordinary. Given that there was already a precedent for the developer to push boundaries (like they did with GTA Online), it’s still possible that user-generated content in GTA 6 will go beyond what currently seems viable.

That being said, the larger features are still in the realm of speculation and guesswork, but some smaller ones look much more certain.

For instance, based on online rumors, you’ll probably be able to create and sell unique cosmetics with the online platform. These cosmetics would include clothes, masks, and more. It would make sense for the cosmetics to not go beyond clothes, though, since Rockstar would need to make advanced creator tools available for PC and Console users.

Finally, there’s the question of how UGC will combine with the regular game experience.

Some players raised concerns about UGC directly affecting the single-player aspect of the game, something along the lines of player “assistance” in Death Stranding. This, however, is a needless worry, as Rockstar has always separated its Online and Single Player experiences.

Rockstar undoubtedly understands the importance of both player bases, so we can be confident that the main story mode will be its own thing, without online interference, from start to finish. In fact, the developer confirmed in a tweet that GTA Online will not be part of the initial launch, which solidifies that point.
