What Will Lucia and Jason’s Special Abilities Be in GTA 6?

After all the information Rockstar has graced us with, we can now answer this question with less speculation, since we’ve seen the special abilities available to our duo during the extended look. We’ve seen Jason’s special ability in action, and got more information during the previews on how it functions.

But we’ve seen and heard precious little about Lucia’s special ability, leading many to assume it would be the same as Jason’s. I don’t think that’ll be the case, however.

Will GTA 6 Have Special Abilities?

Thanks to the above scene from the Extended Look at GTA 6, we know that Jason, at least, will have something similar to Deadeye from RDR 2, but in GTA 6 it’s called Focus.

There’s also a focus bar in the game, which empties while using the special ability, just like in GTA 5. During the previews, it was revealed that there are consumables in the game that can help restore the character’s focus. At this moment, it’s unclear whether sleep will restore focus, but we’ll know soon enough.

We can now, at least, say with certainty that special abilities are making a return in GTA 6.

Jason’s Special Abilities

As seen in the Extended Look, Jason is able to enter a Focus state, much like Dead Eye in RDR 2. This ability slows down time and also highlights weak points on the enemy model. Hitting a spot highlighted in yellow will disarm an enemy, while hitting a spot highlighted in red will down an enemy.

The period in which Jason engages this special ability is pretty lengthy, so it seems like it’ll be quite handy when you’re in a tight spot. We haven’t seen him engage Focus while driving just yet, so there may be different mechanics at play there. At this point, we don’t even know yet whether Focus can be triggered while driving.

As confirmed during the previews at Rockstar North, we can also use Focus to see police units in the vicinity, helping us to evade them until we can get rid of all our wanted indicators. How exactly this works isn’t crystal clear just yet, since I haven’t seen it with my own eyes, but TGG has confirmed its existence.

What are Lucia’s Special Abilities in GTA 6?

While we haven’t received official confirmation on Lucia’s abilities just yet, one has to imagine they have something to do with hand-to-hand combat. She could also have the same abilities as Jason, but until we receive official confirmation, we can’t be sure just yet.

There are rumors of supposed “leaks” that show Lucia having a special ability that also slows down time and allows her to dish out one devastating, high-damage shot, but I would take that with a bag of salt. It just doesn’t make much sense when we’re likely to mostly face human enemies. If true, that’s a pretty poor special ability compared to Jason’s.

I will, naturally, update this article as soon as we do get confirmation. It could be before the release of GTA 6 on 19 November, since we’re getting new info basically weekly for the moment, so do check back soon.
