What Will Lucia and Jason’s Special Abilities Be in GTA 6?

With these speculative pieces, I like to look at what’s come before and make the best-informed guesses possible. However, with special abilities, we don’t have too much to go off of. Special abilities only came into play in GTA 5 for the first time.

That said, Michael’s ability is basically just Max Payne’s Bullet Time, but without those spectacular dives. This was also carried over to RDR 2 as Dead Eye. And so, going off less information than we’d normally have, here are my thoughts on which special abilities we might see in GTA 6.

Will GTA 6 Have Special Abilities at All?

Judging from what we’ve seen so far, Rockstar seems to be taking a more realistic approach to its next title. At first, I thought this might be a viable reason for dropping the special abilities entirely. However, RDR 2 was chock-full of realism, and Arthur still had Dead Eye, so that kind of defeats that argument.

Fan reception to the special abilities was also mixed, with some calling them useless while others loved them. Most people enjoyed Franklin’s driving ability, me included, even though most of the time I simply forgot it was there. Trevor’s Rage ability is also fun, but I never found it particularly useful in normal circumstances. And, finally, Michael’s Bullet Time was good in a pinch, but the vast majority of gunfights didn’t really need it at all.

That said, I do think we’ll get some kind of special abilities again in GTA 6, though I think they’ll be far more refined than what we saw in GTA 5. But what might we get?

Potential Special Abilities for Lucia and Jason

These are only guesses, of course, but we do have some abilities in prior Rockstar games to look back on. Of course, we have the abilities in GTA 5, RDR 2, and the Max Payne games, but then we also have different driving abilities from the Midnight Club games.

Jason, potentially being the main driver, might get a variation of Franklin’s from GTA 5, which is the Zone ability from Midnight Club. He might also get something like the Agro ability from Midnight Club, which makes your car indestructible for a while, useful for plowing through roadblocks. I doubt we’ll see that last one, however.

As for Lucia, it’s likely she’ll have some variation of Trevor’s Rage ability when engaged in hand-to-hand combat, given her fighting skill. This doesn’t sound too exciting, and it’ll be of very limited use, but it is lore-friendly.

And that might very well be it. However, we could also see (and I kind of hope we do) an RPG-like progression system, so you can specialize the two protagonists to your liking. This would be similar to GTA 5 and Online’s system, where doing a certain activity makes you stronger, gives you more stamina, greater driving skill, etc. — but this time complete with perk points to scale into special abilities.

I don’t feel confident at all that we’ll get that, but it’s fun to speculate about.

To cap off the speculation, if there’s anyone in the game who can harness Michael’s Bullet Time and Trevor’s Rage, it looks like that’d be Raul. He is a very experienced criminal, after all, and given his recklessness, the Rage ability would suit him well.

Of course, we could see all-new special abilities related to hacking, explosives, intimidation (controlling hostages), losing the cops, or staying incognito, etc. There are countless possibilities to speculate on, but most if it’s just for fun, anyway.

So, what special abilities do you think our first GTA protagonist couple might have? And please, don’t say Lucia’s feet.
