5 GTA Online Features I Want in GTA 6

GTA Online is not the same game it was when it launched back in 2013. With over 13 years of updates and content additions, it has plenty of new features, vehicles, systems, and quality-of-life additions compared to the base game. While it’s still an online experience first and foremost, GTA Online has a wealth of content and features that I’d love to see in GTA 6.

Property Customization

In the base game, outside of purchasing safehouses, you can buy properties across Los Santos and generate weekly income. It’s a novel idea that has been greatly expanded over the years in GTA Online, allowing you to enter them, customize interiors, choose decorations, display collectibles, and make them feel lived-in and personal. In typical GTA fashion, we’ve seen Jason and Lucia in different locations, and it would be a major step up from GTA 5 if you were allowed to customize the interiors of the safehouses and properties you own in GTA 6.

This could mean changing the furniture, choosing different wall colors, adding decorations and artwork, adjusting how you display vehicles and weapons, and having dedicated rooms for indoor entertainment and activities. A lot of these features are already present in GTA Online and could make owning a property more than just an income generator.

Armories and Weapon Storage

There are hints in the promotional material that managing your weaponry won’t be as simple as pulling an endless arsenal out of your pocket. GTA 6 could instead adopt a system similar to Red Dead Redemption 2, where Jason and Lucia can only carry a limited number of weapons at a time. If that’s the case, having access to dedicated weapon storage could be an important part of mission preparation.

GTA Online already has something similar with the Agency, which features a dedicated armory where you can access and customize your arsenal. GTA 6 could take this a step further, allowing Jason and Lucia to store their weapons at home, create custom loadouts, and pick the right equipment for the job before heading out. This could even extend to vehicle trunks, giving players access to additional weapons without letting them carry their entire arsenal at once.

If Rockstar really is taking a more restrictive approach to weapon-carrying, an armory system would be a natural way to make that limitation feel like a meaningful gameplay feature rather than an inconvenience.

Pets

As of the Mansions update, you can purchase a pet in GTA Online if you own a mansion. You can choose between a dog or cat, select its breed and color, and even give it a personalized name. For the most part, pets roam around your mansion and can be petted, but that’s about the extent of the interaction.

There are also hints that GTA 6 could feature a more substantial pet system. A dressed iguana can be seen at Jason’s place in the trailer, while another shot shows the same one resting on an NPC’s shoulder in a bar. There’s also a snake in an enclosure at Jason and Lucia’s place. While none of this confirms a full-fledged pet system where you can choose between different animals, it certainly leaves the door open for one.

I’d love to see Rockstar take the idea much further in GTA 6. Players could choose from a wider variety of domesticated animals, walk their pets, feed them, play with them, take them in vehicles, and keep them at specific properties. Giving individual pets their own personalities and behaviors would also make them feel like genuine companions rather than another decoration for your mansion.

Exercise and Physical Activities

Gyms and physical activities were a big part of GTA: San Andreas and have been notably absent from the series since then. Recently, though, as part of the “A Safehouse in the Hills” update for GTA Online, Rockstar introduced outdoor gym equipment and yoga. While these activities don’t have any impact on your character’s physique, they do provide temporary stat boosts, such as increased speed and strength.

GTA 6 has already hinted that these activities are returning in some form, but I hope they’re expanded properly and reward players who invest the time into them.

Whether it’s permanent stat upgrades, a more muscular build, or new combat moves, there’s a lot of potential here. Since these were relatively recent additions to GTA Online, there’s a chance Rockstar simply introduced a simpler version of the system there while saving a more detailed implementation for GTA 6.

Either way, being able to dynamically shape your character’s physique, whether through gym equipment or activities like sports, is something I’d love to see Rockstar expand upon in GTA 6.

Quality-of-Life Improvements

Beyond the big ones, there are tons of quality-of-life features that were introduced in GTA Online that are sorely missing in GTA 5. Not all of these would make sense, but some version of them could make things a lot smoother:

  • Quickly accessing snacks and armor – Thanks to the Interaction Menu in GTA Online, you can easily access different consumables and accessories without pausing and opening an additional menu.
  • Fast vehicle management – Requesting vehicles, regardless of type, is really simple in GTA Online and could make calling in owned vehicles more convenient in GTA 6. It’s very limited in GTA 5 since each character has a set main vehicle.
  • Customizable weapon wheel/loadouts – Weapon loadouts to quickly create and equip sets of desired weapons if that restricted system is actually happening in GTA 6.
  • Quick outfit/appearance changes – Red Dead Redemption 2 also has this feature, but being able to swap between different custom outfit sets on the fly would make it way easier than going back to your place and doing that there.
  • Better map markers – Custom waypoints and more useful points of interest.
  • Ability to save multiple vehicle locations – Particularly useful since GTA will have multiple properties.
  • Improved property access – Being able to choose which property/garage/vehicle you want to access without tedious navigation.

GTA Online, aside from its terrible cheating problem and matchmaking issues, has evolved quite a bit over the years, and many vehicles introduced there can be spotted in GTA 6 as well. There is obviously some form of shared development between the two titles, and Rockstar has learned a lot over the years from player feedback. That feedback will certainly come in handy when designing features for GTA 6, and I’m looking forward to seeing how far the studio will take existing elements from GTA Online.
