Hearing about suspects attempting to steal one car is unfortunately normal. But 40-year-old Jermane Middleton allegedly decided to go on an entire rampage on September 16. Everything started when he allegedly stole a BMW from a bank parking lot in southwest Houston. According to reports, he allegedly ordered the two people who were already inside to leave the vehicle before driving away.
Unfortunately for the suspect, he didn’t really make it too far. He crashed into vehicles at Highway 90 and Promenade in Stafford, forcing him to leave the BMW. Middleton’s car rampage didn’t end there, because he allegedly attempted to take a woman’s vehicle, though he was unsuccessful.
That’s when he approached a 76-year-old man to take his car instead. Middleton allegedly shoved the car’s original owner to the ground and attempted to drive away, but the car wouldn’t start because the owner’s phone was connected and he had called 911. This prompted the alleged suspect to try running on foot.
He made it to a Frost Bank, where he got into a running vehicle while the owner’s 10-year-old son was still reportedly inside. The child escaped and alerted his mother, who apparently pulled Middleton from the vehicle, forcing him to run away yet again.

Like any playable character from a GTA game, Middleton didn’t let this stop him. He allegedly went to the nearby McDonald’s and tried to get into a customer’s pickup truck. When he was unable to do that, he climbed into the truck’s bed. Luckily, that’s when the police finally caught up to him and arrested him for all of the alleged carjackings and attempted carjackings.
Middleton Had Been Around the Block Before
According to records, Middleton had 13 previous convictions in Texas. The kicker is that most of them were in Wharton County, with him even pleading guilty to a theft charge in Fort Bend County and to attempting to tamper with evidence in Harris County.
Naturally, commenters pointed out the absurdity of the entire situation. The consensus was that Middleton was treating things like he was in a GTA Online lobby, changing cars when he crashed one or found something better than the one he was driving.
