Streamers Are Getting More From GTA 6 Than Rockstar Needs From Them

The extended look at Grand Theft Auto 6 showed just how much the game’s hype will affect streamers. With over 9,000 streamers reportedly getting a combined peak of roughly 3.97 million live viewers and more than 5.2 million hours watched, it’s safe to assume that many streamers have already realized how much of a content goldmine the game will be.

The biggest individual creators were IlloJuan with 233,520 peak viewers, Rubius with 191,056 viewers, and IShowSpeed with 177,887 viewers. These numbers were purely for the individual reactions of these creators during the GTA 6 presentation, making the game basically create a second viewing event around itself.

Looking at these numbers, there could be an argument that streamers need GTA 6 much more than Rockstar needs them. With the game’s extended look reaching over 30 million views on Netflix in just four days, there isn’t much incentive for Rockstar to appeal to streamers and other content creators. This is especially true because GTA 6’s hype will just continue to increase as the game’s release date approaches.

On the other hand, streamers have an obvious incentive to cover every GTA 6 development. Whether it’s a new trailer, gameplay, rumor, or even a screenshot, creators will want to keep their ears on the ground for any new piece of information they could make content on. Content creators will ultimately help Rockstar maintain the game’s hype with or without Rockstar actually releasing any new marketing content.

GTA 6’s Relationship With Streamers Goes Both Ways

While streamers are arguably benefiting more from GTA 6, that doesn’t mean Rockstar doesn’t have anything to gain. The company has kept YouTubers and streamers in the loop for multiple reasons, whether it’s to kick off discussion about the game from creators who got a hands-on preview of Grand Theft Auto 6, or to start a mini controversy by making an in-game creator look like an actual streamer.

There’s no doubt that Rockstar already has the hype it needs to make GTA 6 a massive success. But involving streamers is effectively a sure-fire way to increase the game’s audience, a sproven by the almost 4 million live viewers who tuned in to watch their favorite streamers react to GTA 6’s extended look.

It would be more accurate to say that GTA 6 doesn’t need streamers to sell the game, but streamers have made themselves marketing machines for Rockstar. The company has one of the most effective marketing methods in its hands, so it more than makes sense that it would want to benefit from it. This is especially because GTA 6 will ultimately release GTA 6 Online, and creator-made content will be the best way to promote it.
