In Thonotosassa, Hillsborough County, Florida, more than 100 vehicles were blocking all northbound lanes. The individuals blocking the lanes were allegedly performing burnouts and stunts, ensuring that traffic came to a standstill. Naturally, the Florida Highway Police had to get involved and shortly arrived at the scene.

The gathering quickly started breaking up after seeing the police, with dashcams even reportedly showing people running between vehicles, scrambling to get away. One green BMW allegedly started fleeing the scene as well, but the speed at which it was doing it was reportedly unsafe.

A trooper started chasing the BMW, with authorities saying that the fleeing car reportedly reached approximately 140 mph. This was twice the speed limit. The car did all of this while avoiding the incoming traffic as the driver exited the highway and entered a residential area.

It didn’t take long for the driver, who was identified as 25-year-old Yulian Lugo, to ultimately pull over to stop the chase. Starting near mile marker 266 on I-75 and exiting the interstate to enter a residential area, this chase was the talk of the area when it ensued. Some commenters state that hundreds of cars were present in the gathering, but only one car was treated like the main character of a GTA game.

The Chase Didn’t End Well For Those Involved

The BMW’s driver was quickly charged with aggravated fleeing and participating in a street takeover. Both are felony offences according to reports. He wasn’t alone in the car, as three other passengers were also arrested.

Reports identified the three passengers as one 24-year-old and two 18-year-olds. All three were charged with misdemeanor highway racing. The three passengers and the BMW’s driver were all booked into Hillsborough County Jail.

Most of the other participants in the blocking of the northbound lanes on I-75 left without charges. Still, those who had to face the consequences of their actions likely served as examples of what could have happened to them if they weren’t so lucky.
