There’s an enormous wealth of information on GTA 6 that’s floating all around the internet. Gathering it all and sifting through what’s fact, rumor, and pure hearsay can feel like a near-impossible task.

We’ve done the work, so you don’t have to. In this article, we’ve assembled all the facts that you need to know about GTA 6 to date, including what to believe and what to take with a bag of salt.

GTA 6 Release date

The GTA 6 release date is currently set for 19 November, 2026. This is after a couple of delays pushed it back a full year from its initial Fall 2025 release date. More details below.

Pre-orders are expected to begin between May 18 and May 21, as confirmed by a recent BestBuy leak.

Why was GTA 6 Delayed?

We know by now that crunch time at Rockstar is notoriously hectic, and delays are always expected when waiting for a Rockstar product. The studio has developed a reputation for creating some of the best entertainment products in the world, thanks partly to the insane level of polish applied to its games.

For that reason, most fans can stomach these delays since they know the wait will be worth it.

Delay 1 happened in May of 2025, when Rockstar announced a new release date, 26 May 2026. As usual, Rockstar was short on details, but said that they needed more time to meet the quality expectations of the game.

Delay 2 happened in November 2025, well ahead of time, when the current release date of 19 November 2026 was announced. Again, we didn’t get any details, so we can’t know whether Rockstar faced any technical or engine issues. All they said was that it would allow them to “finish the game with the level of polish” that fans “have come to expect and deserve.”

Will GTA 6 be delayed again?

The short answer is maybe. However, if another delay was coming, we would have expected the announcement by now, so there is hope that November 19 is, in fact, the big day.

That said, anything can happen, and if a delay announcement is made, we’ll share the news with you as quickly as we can.

GTA 6 Price

The GTA 6 price is a point of massive speculation across the internet. As usual, the doomsayers are in one corner yelling about a $100+ game, while the optimists are steadfast that it won’t surpass the $70 mark.

We firmly believe the base game won’t exceed $80, with the deluxe version coming it at $100+.

Bank of America employee on GTA 6 Price

Omar Dessouky, securities stock analyst at the Bank of America, weighed in recently on the price of GTA 6, much to the chagrin of fans. When shared on Reddit, the idea was harshly criticized. The most upvoted comment on that thread was: “Bank of America saying games should be more expensive is like a shark saying the ocean should have more slow swimming seals.”

This largely portrayed the sentiment, with others putting out far harsher statements than that.

However, if we look back to GTA 4, it cost $60, when most games at the time were $50. That said, that’s because GTA 4 launched right when the market had just transitioned to the new $60 standard. By the time GTA 5 came along, the standard was still set and it cost $60, too.

So we can expect GTA 6 to cost $70 for the standard edition; however, with some games sporting an $80 price tag now, it could really be either or. History can only tell us so much.

GTA 6 Platforms

GTA 6 will release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, on 19 November, 2026. Rockstar has confirmed that no PC version will be available on day one, much to the disappointment of PC gamers everywhere.

The core reason that’s widely discussed in the industry is, simply, optimization. Rockstar goes to great lengths to optimize their games for the chosen platforms, and consoles that have fixed specs are far easier to optimize for than PC.

GTA 6 Trailers

Rockstar has, to date, released two GTA 6 trailers so far, with a third expected sometime in May 2026. Here are the details on the trailers we have so far, and on the remaining unreleased trailer.

GTA 6 Trailer 1

The first GTA 6 trailer premiered on 4 December 2023 and is 90 seconds long. It was originally meant to go live on 5 December, but after a leak, Rockstar’s hand was forced, and they made it available a day early.

We get our first official glimpse of the Vice City setting, and we meet Lucia, who seems to be talking to a prison counselor. We see some more of the gorgeous Vice City and surrounds, plus vehicles, tons of NPCs, and more characters that are set to appear in GTA 6.

We see Lucia in a bikini, a man pulling an alligator from a pool, and a woman twerking on the roof of a moving car. We see what appears to be a car meet, potentially indicating some illegal racing, and an alligator walking into a cafe.

Then we get a glimpse of some action, with police breaking down a door and then chasing a rather large man in a skimpy swimsuit. We see more of the locals, including a man watering his garden in a thong, and a group of people who look as though they’ve been mud-wrestling.

A lady with hammers in both hands then says, “Well, look who’s back” in a pretty funny, fourth-wall-breaking moment. We are, indeed, back.

There’s a wild party, and then we see Jason and Lucia running from the cops, while Lucia says, “The only way we’re going to get through this is by sticking together.” We see a news report of a man with a tattooed face, people on dirt bikes, and then a news report titled “dirt-bike dirt-bags” with cops attempting to stop the bikers.

We see another random character, and then Jason and Lucia, wearing masks, entering a store. They then tear around a corner in what appears to be a red Declasse Tulip. They then share an intimate moment where Lucia says “Trust” before Jason repeats it.

We then cut to a shot of the masked duo kicking open a store’s doors and pointing guns. We get the logo, and the trailer ends.

GTA 6 trailer 2

The second GTA 6 trailer dropped on 6 May 2025 – over a year ago now. Unlike the first trailer, it was kept safe until premiere day and gave us a better glimpse of the kind of story we might expect from GTA 6.

The trailer starts with a run-down beach house, and we see our protagonist, Jason Duval, on the roof, working and sweaty. Another character, Brian Heder, approaches and asks, “What are you doing up there?” to which Jason responds, “Just fixing some leaks.”

Brian then says, “Seriously, dude, if you got some time on your hands, I got some properties with paying tenants.” Jason responds, “That’s why you came by?” and Brian says “Just go get me my checks!” as he climbs back into his truck.

Jason, having climbed off the roof, responds with “See you, Brian. Love you, Jason,” and walks back into his home, showing off his impressive physique. This tells us that Jason views Brian as family, or might even be family.

We then see Jason driving in a vehicle, and a lady on the side of the road yells, “Hi Jason!” which makes Jason snicker a bit. Jason then slaps a guy and takes money from a cash register. We see him driving on the highway as a plane zooms past, showing off some of Vice City, as well.

A couple of girls then stop to watch as he lifts weights on the beach, then it cuts to him leaving a store with a six-pack of beers in hand. He then drives past a scene where cops seem to have apprehended suspects.

We cut a prison, where Jason says to a reception guard, “I’m here for Lucia Caminos, she’s supposed to be getting out.” The guard turns and asks for his name, which he gives.

The guard then asks, “Have I seen you here before?” to which Jason replies, “You might’ve.”

We cut to Lucia walking out of the prison, and they greet each other with an uncertain “hey,” indicating, perhaps, some emotional overwhelm at finally getting to see each other without bars in the way again. Then we get text on the screen reading “Rockstar Games Presents.”

We then see an intimate moment between Jason and Lucia as they roll on a bed, kissing.

Lucia then holds up a number of what seem to be bank employees with an MP5 while wearing a mask. Jason, also in a mask and also with an MP5-inspired weapon, grabs a man by his shirt and drags him over, saying, “You, stay.”

It switches back to the inmate moment, and then to Jason and Lucia sitting outside a bar, beers in hand. Jason says, “To new beginnings,” and they clink bottles. We then see them sitting on a dock, with Lucia mocking Jason and giving him a playful shoulder bump.

We then see some guys loading a plane at night, presumably with illegal substances of some kind, then Lucia is spotted doing community service before it switches to her and Jason in an apartment, while she says, “Trust me, this place is just the start for us.” It switches to Cal Hampton, another confirmed character, in a bar yelling “ring the bells,” while making a circular motion with his finger in the air.

We then see Jason and Lucia sitting in the bar next to Cal while he continues, “shots, baby!”

It cuts to shots of Jason and Lucia while she says, “The only thing that matters is who you know, and what you got.” They cut to the couple sitting in a car, and Jason says, “If we’re going to do this, we’re going to do it right.”

It cuts to scenes of them in a nightclub, dancing, before cutting to an unknown character standing up in front of Jason and saying, “Yo, D, this full effect?”

We cut to other random characters, then to Jason helping Lucia to escape through a window while a helicopter circles above. Brian’s voice says, “They got your name, address, they got everything,” during which it cuts to him and Jason talking, then it cuts to tactical policemen conducting a raid.

One of them, in a conversation with another police member, says, “Us cops, we gotta protect each other.”

It then cuts to Jason firing from a car window with a pistol, then we see Bae-Luxe, one of the Real Dimez members, holding her fingers up like a gun and making shooting sounds.

A few scenes then play in quick succession: Jason and Lucia dancing, Jason throwing a man into a car, Lucia kicking someone in an MMA cage, and then Jason loading a gun and Lucia on the couch while Jason says, “You and me, we got this,” to which Lucia replies, “We got this.”

There’s an explosion as Lucia shoots at a cop car with a grenade launcher, and Jason and Dre’Quan Priest react to something on a phone with a “whoa.” Lucia fights someone on a plane, a truck speeds by with a safe chained to it, and we’re back to Jason and Lucia’s intimate moment on the bed.

Another unknown character then says, “Say Vice City, baby,” while taking a selfie of him, Jason, and Lucia in a club.

We then see some people taking a photo on the street with a bunch of cars lined up on the road behind them. We then cut to a party at a house, and then a dancer in what looks like a strip club.

We then see a television with an Ammunation ad running. We see on a table in front of the TV a gaming controller, an empty beer bottle, and a full beer bottle with condensation on the glass (nice detail). The scene shifts, and we see that it’s Jason lying on the sofa watching TV while Lucia comes home from work and goes to lie on his chest.

It cuts to a helicopter chasing an airboat across a swampy area, then Jason and Lucia are riding on a Jet Ski, then Jason is driving a bike as a plane flies close overhead.

We then see Lucia jumping from a bike onto the back of a truck that contains a supercar, then Lucia and Jason are back in an apartment or motel room, and Lucia jumps onto Jason, and he catches her, in what appears to be a celebratory moment.

We then see people on a speedboat shooting at a police helicopter. It cuts to a night scene with a dirtbike, and then Lucia is driving a car while Jason jumps into it on the move, police sirens wailing in the background.

Cal then appears in a hangar, saying, “If you got friends, can you hook me up, please?”

Then we see the red Tulip from Trailer one driving along a street with Lucia laughing in the background, a beautiful sunset lighting the scene. Then the GTA 6 logo appears with the outdated release date of May 26, 2025.

That ends the trailer.

GTA 6 Trailer 3

Talks of the suspected third GTA 6 trailer started way back in November 2025 already, around the time of the second delay announcement. Since then, many have speculated on a potential release date for this rumored third trailer, but have been wrong every time.

March and April saw a massive uptick in rumors, given that Rockstar suddenly changed its posting schedule on X, and Take-Two’s new financial year started on 1 April. PlayStation data miners also discovered that GTA 6 title ID’s were being added. This culminated in a popular theory that the trailer’s release was imminent, with prominent figures like Tom Henderson adding to the conversation.

Alas, no trailer arrived, and we marched into May.

Take-Two is set to have its next earnings call on May 21, and many have now theorized that we’ll get Trailer 3 before then. That said, Rockstar has delayed games before earnings calls in the past, too, so we might get a very unwelcome surprise. Cross your fingers.

When will GTA 6 trailer 3 drop?

Sadly, it’s unlikely that we’ll get the third trailer in May. Based on Red Dead Redemption 2’s timelines and the Summer Game Fest calendar, we’re most likely looking at a release date somewhere between June and August.

What will trailer 3 contain?

Most likely, trailer 3 will show off far more actual gameplay mechanics than we got to see in the first two. We’ll see more of Jason and Lucia’s relationship, perhaps even get a glimpse of some hardships they face, and also get to see and learn more about the colorful cast of characters they surround themselves with.

We’re getting close to the actual release date now, so we expect trailer 3 to show the most polished version of GTA 6 that we’ve seen so far, along with more vehicles, more areas of Leonida, and more characters.

GTA 6 Map, setting, and location

GTA 6 takes place in the fictional state of Leonida, based on Florida, US. It contains several key locations based on real-world places, and takes place on a map that is rumored to be huge (it would have to be significantly bigger than the GTA 5 map to contain all the locations promised).

It is set in the modern day, just like its predecessor was.

Locations

There are six key locations that have been revealed so far in GTA 6. These include:

Vice City is inspired by Miami, Leonida Keys by the Florida Keys, and Grassrivers by the Everglades. The inspiration for the other places to be featured in GTA 6 is up for debate. There is also some evidence that points towards a second state being present in the game, namely, Gloriana, based on real-life Georgia. It was spotted on in-game number plates. It likely won’t feature in gameplay, however.

How big will the GTA 6 map be?

The GTA 6 map will likely be around 2.5 times larger than the GTA 5 map, which we can all agree is massive. It already feels like a bit of a slog to drive from Los Santos to Paleto Bay, but we can expect even longer journeys to be possible in GTA 6.

We have a rough estimate thanks to the mapping community surrounding GTA 6, who took it upon themselves to create a map of Leonida, rumored to be quite accurate – some websites estimate around 95% accurate.

GTA 6 Interiors

It’s said that GTA 6 will have over 700 unique, enterable interiors, pointing towards a massive, highly interactive map. It may not sound like that much, given the scope of the map, but keep in mind that GTA 5 had less than 100 at launch.

For a map only around twice the size, a 7x increase in unique interiors is a massive upgrade. Most of these will likely also be focused on urban areas, with residential areas being less interactive, depending on their role in the story.

GTA 6 Setting

GTA 6 will take place in 2020’s modern America, and is likely to take the same satirical approach that we’ve come to expect from the series.

GTA 6 Characters

Like all GTA games, GTA 6 will feature a cast of bright, colorful, over-the-top characters for us to live through as we enter the state of Leonida. Based on the trailers and the confirmed characters we’ve already seen, it’s highly likely that GTA 6 will have the largest cast of characters in a GTA game to date.

We have nine confirmed characters so far, officially released on the GTA 6 official website.

Jason Duval

Jason is the romantic interest of Lucia Caminos and is one of the two protagonists in GTA 6. He grew up around grifters and crooks, and even did a stint in the army. Now, he wants something new.

Lucia is the love interest of Jason Duval, with the pair featuring prominently in both trailers. Thanks to her father, she learned to fight before she could walk, and did a stint in the Leonida state penitentiary.

Brian Heder

Brain seems to be a kind of father figure to Jason, and runs an illegal drug-running operation. He lets Jason live at one of his properties rent-free in exchange for some services.

Cal Hampton

Cal is Jason’s friend and also an employee of Brian’s. He appears to be a conspiracy theorist and also a form of comic relief. Let’s hope he doesn’t betray us.

Boobie Ike

Boobie is a businessman from Vice City, owning, among other things, a strip club. He got his start through the drug business and built an empire from it. He has a particular interest in young rapper, Dre’Quan Priest.

Dre’Quan Priest used to be a low-level drug dealer, but his passion was always music. He was in with Boobie, but has since signed with Real Dimez, a potential point of conflict in the upcoming story in GTA 6.

Raul Batista

Raul is a confident, cunning, and charming bank robber on the hunt for big scores with big risks. He even goes so far as to become reckless, pushing his cohorts to either step up or step out.

Real Dimez

Real Dimez is a popular music duo, consisting of Bae-Luxe and Roxy. They’ve been friends since high school and are a couple of street-smart gangsters at their core. They’re also looking to break out with another big music hit.

GTA 6 Story

The GTA 6 story is another hot topic of discussion among fans, but little can be confirmed for the moment.

The story confirmed so far in GTA 6

So far, we know that Lucia and Jason were separated for a while, given that she was in prison. We know that they are reunited, presumably shortly after the story begins. We then get a synopsis along with trailer 2.

It says that an easy score goes wrong for our duo, and “they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida.”

It goes on to say that they will have to rely on each other more than ever if they want out of this alive. Beyond that, we know some more snippets covered in the character’s official information that reveal bits about each one’s past.

We also know, from Trailer 2, that the duo will come up against a shady cop, potentially even corrupt, and that he will most likely be the main antagonist in GTA 6.

Original scrapped storyline for GTA 6

The original storyline, which was revealed by leaks, reportedly focused on three protagonists again, like GTA 5. These included an old cop and his son, and a right-hand man of a Colombian drug lord. It was said that the cop would sink into organized crime to protect his drug-addicted son.

This story was only in development until 2016, when it was scrapped by Take-Two for being “too dark and not aligned with their expectations.”

Unconfirmed leaks and rumors

There have been a number of leaks and rumors we’ll briefly cover, but note that these are confirmed and can be taken as pure speculation for the moment.

The first is that GTA 6 will take place with a five-act structure, claimed by leaker GameRoll. They also said that Chapter 5 faced development hell and had plenty of content cut from the final version.

YouTuber Legacy Killa HD, known to have a credible source, said that the main story of GTA 6 would be shorter than Red Dead Redemption 2. They also said that it would feel more grounded than previous titles, focusing more on “criminals figuring things out, family struggles,” while also maintaining the usual insanity within missions.

There have also been rumors of alternate endings, as well. But to be clear, this section is to be taken as speculation until official confirmation comes from either Rockstar or the game itself.

GTA 6 Gameplay and patents

We have no real way of what actual gameplay will be like until we have the game in our hands, but it’s likely to feel somewhat similar to GTA 5, in the same way that GTA 5 feels similar to GTA 4. That said, Rockstar have filed a few patents that point towards big changes in gameplay and give us an idea of some things we can expect.

GTA 6 will have amazing NPCs

The NPC Navigation & AI patent (US11684855B2) filed by Rockstar points to the fact that GTA 6 NPCs will be better than anything we’ve seen so far. It gives each NPC a unique “driving profile” that’ll determine aggression, speed, and route selection. It will allow them to even dynamically reroute to avoid traffic and respond to weather conditions.

In other words, they can adapt paths on the fly, unlike previous NPCs that followed fixed paths. This will go a long way to making the world feel more natural and alive.

Smooth animations and clothing regardless of body size

The Runtime Animation Retargeting patent (US20250095261A1) is more for custom characters and changes how animations and clothing function. Instead of exceptionally tall, short, or oddly shaped characters having janky animations and clothing glitches, these things will adapt dynamically to fit each body type.

Another patent, Virtual Character Locomotion (US11620781B1), will handle dynamic situations as well. If your character is shot and bleeding, for example, they might struggle to run. A heavy duffel bag will slow you down, etc.

The coolest breaking glass in all of gaming

This one isn’t a patent, but a slip from a former developer’s LinkedIn. In their work history, they stated that they had taken the lead on a procedural breakable glass system for vehicles and props. This isn’t hard proof that this system will make it into the game, but should it, how cool would procedural breaking glass be?

It’s small details like this that have consistently made Rockstar games a cut and a half above most competition.

Amazing water

There are reports of a fast fluid simulation system that makes fluids totally dynamic. This applies to drops, splashes, and puddles – even bodies of water. It points to the fact that when we step on a puddle, it’ll splash and deform. If we dive into a body of water, it’ll dynamically react to how we enter and move through it.

GTA 6 Online

GTA 6 Online has not been discussed much publicly by Rockstar, but an unlikely place confirmed its existence. In an ongoing court case between Rockstar and the employees it fired in October 2025, it slipped out that GTA 6 Online will support up to 32 players.

That might not be a huge number (and honestly, do you really want more players in a GTA lobby? Enough chaos as is, right?), but the real gem here is that it confirms it: GTA 6 Online will happen.

When does GTA 6 Online Launch?

There’s currently no concrete information from Rockstar on when GTA 6 will launch, but we can hazard a guess based on several factors. The first is the timing between GTA 5 and GTA Online, which was a gap of just two weeks.

Next, Leaker Ghost of Hope claimed that GTA 6 Online will launch one month after the initial game’s launch. Red Dead Online launched about a month after Red Dead Redemption 2.

The GTA 5 story takes around 30-35 hours to complete. The RDR 2 story takes around 50-60 hours to complete. So, if we base it on these factors, everything combined, we can safely state that GTA 6 Online should launch around 30-45 days after GTA 6.

That’s assuming that Rockstar allows about a week for every 15 hours of gameplay, and that Rockstar intends to let players finish the campaign in peace before launching into Online. However, that may just be a coincidence, and we may have a longer or shorter wait.

For now, we await confirmation from Rockstar.

GTA 6 Leaks

During Development, GTA 6 has had to endure a massive amount of leaks. Here are all the leaks so far in chronological order.

Early rumors (2016-2021)

The earliest rumors about GTA 6 date back all the way to 2016, when whispers of the game’s existence first began to emerge. None of these were concrete, and nothing was stolen during this time, but industry insiders got enough of a sniff to get the rumor mill going.

The big hack (18 September 2022)

This is actually one of the most interesting leak stories in video game history, and saw the release of over 90 files into public hands.

An 18-year-old hacker, who was under strict supervision after prior cybercrimes, used an Amazon Firestick with his hotel TV to gain access to Rockstar’s Slack (a messaging system). He got his hands on the 90+ files here, and threatened to release them to the public if Rockstar didn’t contact him within 24 hours.

He ended up releasing the files, caught, and charged with the crime, but he was deemed unfit to stand trial due to severe autism.

During this breach, it was confirmed that we would return to Vice City and feature a female protagonist.

GTA trailer 1 leak

The first GTA 6 trailer, which was set to release on 5 December 2023, instead leaked a day early. It was a low-quality version with text across the screen, but it forced Rockstar’s hand to officially release the trailer a day early.

According to Strauss Zelnick, this leak ultimately did no harm to the game.

Story and prologue details (October 2023)

Around six weeks before Trailer 1 went live, a breakdown of GTA 6 gameplay details appeared on Reddit. While no one took this seriously at first, the leak named both protagonists and the setting, and it was correct.

It was only after Trailer 1 came out that this leak gained credibility as an actual leak, and not just speculation.

Production Delay Warning (March 2024)

On 22 March, 2024, Kotaku said in an article that GTA 6 had fallen behind in production, and could miss its 2025 release window. They apparently had insider information on the Rockstar development progress, and – obviously – this turned out to be spot on, given GTA 6’s most recent release date.

Voice actors (May 2024)

In May 2024, the YouTuber LegacyKillaDX released the full names of the voice actors playing Jason and Lucia – namely Manni L. Perez and Dylan Rourke.

This was months before Rockstar made their official announcement, and it was spot on as well.

GTA 6 in the Rockstar Office (1 January 2025)

This was a leak, but it didn’t really reveal much. It was cool though. It happened on January 1, 2025, when a photo came out on Reddit that showed a monitor in a Rockstar office with GTA 6 on it. Lucia was on-screen in an unknown location. There were some trees, containers, and a silage bunker visible on the screen, too.

Also in the picture was what appeared to be an authentic PlayStation 5 development kit. We’re still not 100% sure if it was a real photo, but most assume authentiticy given the small details.

Full names of the protagonists (April 2025)

GameRoll once again released an accurate leak in April of 2025, releasing the full names of Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos a full month before they were officially revealed by Rockstar.

GameRoll leaks (2025)

The GameRoll leaks that we discuss elsewhere in this article happened throughout 2025, consistently revealing more information about GTA 6. Things like Chapter structure, character names, and gameplay details emerged from this source.

These leaks are likely authentic and are tied to Rockstar firing over 30 employees in October 2025, leading to the court case that revealed the existence of GTA 6 Online.

Court case lets slip the existence of GTA 6 Online (January 2026)

Let’s be real, we all knew that GTA 6 Online was definitely coming. But then you can never quite be 100% sure of Rockstar’s next move, so when it was let slip that GTA 6 Online would feature 32 players in lobbies, it also confirmed that we would be getting an all-new online mode.

Earnings leaks (April 2026)

This wasn’t exactly a GTA 6 information leak, but it’s worth covering, because it’s pretty wild. The hacking group calling themselves “ShinyHunters” set their sights on Rockstar and gained access to a massive amount of earnings information.

We all knew that Rockstar was making stupid amounts of money from GTA Online, so this was no big surprise, but we do get a better idea of why Rockstar doesn’t prioritize a Day 1 PC release. 97% of their GTA Online earnings come from consoles, so it’s only natural that there isn’t a great deal of urgency on the PC side of things.

GTA 6 development history

GTA 6 has had a long development road, starting straight after GTA 5 and continuing for 12 years. That said, the actual development journey only really started in earnest after Red Dead Redemption 2 came out. So, here are all the details.

The development journey

Preliminary work started in 2014, shortly after GTA 5 was released. We don’t know what this looked like, exactly, but it was largely conceptual during this time. Early development only started in 2018 after RDR2’s release, and principal production – the most resource-intensive phase of a game’s development – started in 2020. Hence, the development process itself has only really taken around 8 years, assuming we get our release in 2026.

GTA 6 could’ve been a dark story

The original storyline was much darker than what we seem to be getting, picturing a cop’s slow descent into a life of crime to protect his drug-addicted son. This version of GTA 6 was scrapped in 2016 in favor of Jason and Lucia’s tale.

Take-Two cancelled the original concept because it was too dark.

Rockstar’s attempt to avoid the crunch

Rockstar wanted to shed its reputation for their infamously brutal crunch times with GTA 6, targeting a medium-sized project that would expand over time. This worked at first, with reports comparing the difference between the GTA 6 and RDR2 environments as “night and day.”

This didn’t last, however, and things ramped up anyway amidst a controversial return-to-office push from Rockstar.

Recently, a Rockstar Employee in Bangalore left a Glassdoor review stating that the crunch was most definitely on. Reportedly, employees were expected to work until 3am even after completing a full day shift.

It’s only one review, and it’s hard to base anything on a single experience. Others have stated that the issue could be more related to the work culture in India, rather than a crunch executed from above.

It’s hard to tell anything at the moment, and confirmation will most likely only arrive after the release of GTA 6.

The most expensive entertainment product ever made

GTA 6 is set to become the most expensive video game – and entertainment product in general – ever created, set to come in well over $1 billion. Estimates rate that it could cost us much as $2 billion at the end of the day.

The current most expensive game is, surprisingly, Monopoly Go, costing over $1 billion, but as much as $900 million is spent on marketing rather than development costs.

Pre-release rewards

GTA 6 has already won awards, namely the Most Wanted Game and the Most Anticipated Game awards in both 2024 and 2025. Quite an achievement for a game that hasn’t been released yet, but also not unexpected for a game of this size.
