Crimes related to parents not taking care of children are unfortunately fairly common, but one incident took things extremely far. This incident happened in a home in the 1000 block of Northeast 175th Street, Miami-Dade County, Florida. In October, the children from that home told their relatives some concerning things.

According to the children, they weren’t being fed properly and were being kept inside their rooms. This prompted the relatives to get the authorities involved, leading the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office to send deputies to the house. They arrived around 7 AM on October 13 to conduct a wellness check.

The father of the children was 40-year-old Wendy Louis. According to the police report, the children told the deputies that they sometimes went days without food. This was because the father believed that the government was putting “stuff” in their food. They also allegedly said that they were confined to their rooms for days. They were also allegedly forced to use a bucket as a toilet, and could only drink water from the shower when thirsty.

If all of this wasn’t enough, they also allegedly said that they had not attended school since their father withheld them. They also weren’t being homeschooled. The deputies also described the kids as extremely thin and small for their ages, with unkempt and matted hair.

Louis Was Charged With Child Neglect

Louis was arrested on the same day and taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. According to reports, he declined to be interviewed by investigators. However, he does face two counts of felony child neglect without great bodily harm.

Louis also reportedly has an outstanding warrant related to earlier domestic-violence battery and resisting an officer without violence allegations. However, these charges are separate and completely unrelated to the current incident.

Louis appeared before a judge on Sunday, who set his bond at $5,000. He also ordered him to stay away from the kids, though it’s unknown who’s taking care of them in his absence.
