A Chevrolet Corvette and a Dodge Challenger in Jacksonville, Florida, decided to have a GTA-style street race. The two cars were speeding on the Buckman Bridge when a police officer started trailing them. What the two racers didn’t know was that the officer was in an unmarked SUV.
Officer Ernesto Valerio of the Specialized Traffic Enforcement Unit was out on patrol in an unmarked SUV, specifically in search of street racers and speeders. According to the footage released by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the Dodge Challenger and Chevrolet Corvette were pacing each other before the two started speeding off.
The two cars allegedly reached speeds over 120 miles per hour, which is easily over the speed limit. Fortunately for the trailing officer, his SUV was still able to comfortably keep up, at least with the Challenger. It didn’t take long for the officer to pull the Dodge Challenger over, arresting the 22-year-old driver for a felony and multiple misdemeanors.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office made a post on its Facebook account stating that over 100 lives have been lost locally because of speeding cars and impairment. This is likely why officers have started taking steps such as patrolling in unmarked cars. While the two racers in this instance were able to realize that they were being trailed by someone suspicious, there’s a good chance that not every racer or speeder will be the same.

Chevrolet Driver Could Still Be at Large
The driver of the C6-gen Corvette was able to get away during the initial chase, even if his fellow speeder wasn’t as lucky. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office posted about the incident and only mentioned that the Dodge Challenger’s driver was arrested. It’s unknown whether the Chevy’s driver was also ultimately apprehended.
It’s important to mention that the social media post also mentioned that eight arrests had been made that week. There’s a chance that the Chevy’s driver may be one of those arrests, though it’s unlikely, considering the driver wasn’t mentioned.
