26-year-old Josiah D-ante Lee Smith was clearly in a weird state of mind when he forced his way into a home in Gainesville, Florida. While some may say that forcing entry into houses is nothing new, Smith did it while carrying a sword that he used to force the residents outside.
This incident happened on September 22. The caller told the authorities that Smith had entered their houses with a sword and forced the residents to leave. While this is already odd, some may find it even odder that the authorities later discovered that Smith and the victim didn’t even know each other. There wasn’t any sort of revenge or similar malicious intent involved, so the real question is what this entire thing was even for.
Florida deputies taser sword-wielding burglary suspect

Regardless, the deputies arrived at the house and allegedly saw Smith still holding the sword in his hands. When asked to drop the weapon, Smith allegedly refused, prompting the deputies to fire a foam round from a less-lethal launcher to get him to drop the sword. When that didn’t work, the authorities had no choice but to use a taser, causing Smith to fall backwards. This let the police take Smith into custody.
Bodycam footage of the authorities first arriving at the house was also revealed. It clearly shows Smith approaching the authorities with a sword in his hands before the foam round and then the Taser were used. While everything was fortunately taken care of fairly quickly, many commenters still find the entire thing odd, especially since there wasn’t really any point to this.

Smith Now Faces Multiple Charges
As expected, Smith now faces multiple charges. These include charges of armed burglary of an occupied dwelling, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, armed kidnapping, and resisting an officer without violence.
Smith is currently in Alachua County Jail. The alleged suspect also had his face leaked thanks to the public bodycam footage, and it’ll likely be tough for him to stay anonymous anywhere, given how viral the clip has gotten. Much of this virality is thanks to the sheer absurdity of seeing someone rob a house with a sword.
