Every generation, Rockstar Games has managed to impress both gamers and developers with its highly ambitious, feature-rich open-world titles, defined by an obsessive level of detail that only the studio can deliver. Each new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series has pushed the format forward with new gameplay and technical innovations, and GTA 6 is shaping up to be Rockstar’s most ambitious project yet.

Here are all the confirmed features for GTA 6 revealed or hinted at by Rockstar Games so far.

All Confirmed GTA 6 Features

Many features from previous GTA titles are set to return in GTA 6 with added gameplay and technical complexity. Here are all the features confirmed by Rockstar based on screenshots, trailers, and official descriptions.

Dual Protagonists

Jason and Lucia are the main characters in GTA 6, and just like in GTA 5, you will be able to switch between them as you explore Leonida State. Unlike GTA 5, however, Jason and Lucia are romantically involved, something that has not been explored in a GTA title before. They are both essential to the story, and you’ll switch between them as you progress through the campaign.

Each character will have unique side characters to interact with, both individually and as a couple. We’ve already been introduced to a few of Jason’s friends, including Cal Hampton and Brian Heder, through the trailers and official descriptions.

More Involved Gangs and Faction System

Almost every GTA title has featured unique gangs and factions that players encounter during the campaign and while exploring the world. However, this concept was greatly expanded in Red Dead Redemption 2, where gang members, whether individually or in groups, reacted to your presence in a far more dynamic and often hostile manner.

GTA Online already made working with and running gangs a far more interactive experience, and there is a chance that an affiliation and rivalry system could be introduced in GTA 6.

Hunting, Fishing, and Underwater Exploration

GTA 6 features a wide variety of animals that can be seen throughout the trailers and official screenshots. Birds, fish, and land animals are all present, and the diversity on display is staggering, especially compared to GTA 5. While hunting was introduced in GTA 5, it was a fairly bare-bones activity that Rockstar later turned into a much deeper simulation in Red Dead Redemption 2. GTA 6 will likely feature a similar, though admittedly less complex, hunting system.

Jason is seen fishing in one of the screenshots, and several NPC hunters can be seen carrying and displaying hunted animals.

Rockstar has also shared a screenshot featuring an incredibly detailed underwater environment being explored by NPCs in scuba gear. GTA 5 already featured underwater exploration, but GTA 6 appears to be taking it much further with greater environmental detail and wildlife density.

Advanced Wanted System and Police Response

The police response system in the GTA series has always been thrilling, but often somewhat comical in its implementation. Officers can seemingly appear out of nowhere, even when crimes are committed without any witnesses nearby. Throughout the trailers and screenshots, a far more reactive police force can be seen in action.

They are not simply shooting at every target on sight, and Red Dead Redemption 2 already demonstrated a more restrained and believable law enforcement system thanks to a witness system in place. That approach will likely carry over into GTA 6, leading to more engaging encounters with officers of the law.

Improved Melee Combat

Let’s be honest, until Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA games never exactly featured the most satisfying melee combat. It was usually fairly bare bones, and while Rockstar experimented with some interesting ideas in GTA 4, melee combat has generally remained a secondary mechanic in a series primarily focused on firearms.

That said, there are several moments in the new trailers where characters are involved in physical altercations, and Lucia can be seen training in what appears to be a mixed martial arts environment. There is a clear emphasis on melee combat throughout the trailers and screenshots.

Detailed Interiors and a Higher Number of Enterable Buildings

Almost every interior shown in GTA 6’s trailers and screenshots is packed with detail and interactive potential. NPCs can be seen directly interacting with objects as they enter and exit various buildings.

Red Dead Redemption 2 did not have an urban setting, but it still featured an impressive number of enterable buildings. Given GTA 6’s setting and Rockstar’s commitment to immersion, it will likely feature the highest number of explorable interiors in the studio’s history.

Store Robberies

Jason can be seen robbing a store, or potentially collecting payment from a cashier, in the second trailer. GTA 5 already featured a similar system, but the robbery shown in GTA 6 appears to involve much more interaction. Jason is seen physically intimidating the cashier by slapping him around while holding a bat, who is later shown lying on the ground.

Red Dead Redemption 2 featured robberies that could unfold in multiple ways, with NPCs reacting dynamically and alerting law enforcement. GTA 6 appears to be building upon that foundation.

In-Game Social Media

Throughout both trailers, NPCs can be seen recording various events on their phones, while a TikTok-style social media feed showcases bizarre news stories and viral moments with comments and likes displayed on-screen.

It is clear that whatever social media platform exists in-game, it will play an active role in both the campaign and open-world activities.

Expanded and Immersive Nightlife Activities

In previous GTA titles, players could visit various entertainment venues either alone or with companions. Vice City is based on Miami, a city famous for its nightlife, and that influence is evident throughout the trailers.

Jason and Lucia can be seen spending time in clubs, dancing and socializing with friends. Strip clubs featuring an impressive level of detail and NPC density are also shown. Players interested in nightlife activities will have plenty to do.

Complex NPC Behavior and Routines

Rockstar has always taken pride in creating immersive worlds populated by reactive NPCs. However, GTA 6 appears to be taking this even further with characters that behave in a more realistic and varied manner.

NPCs can be seen engaging in a wide range of activities throughout Leonida State, including disrupting traffic, committing crimes, participating in street races, observing and reacting to events around them, sitting on docks, eating and drinking, exercising, commuting, gathering in groups, conversing, hunting, relaxing at bars, shopping, photographing wildlife, filming their surroundings, and dancing in clubs.

Multiple Diverse and Explorable Regions

Leonida State is made up of several distinct regions, each with its own identity and connection to Jason and Lucia. These include Vice City, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, Mount Kalaga, and the Leonida Keys.

All of these locations are loosely inspired by real-world regions of Florida, and it is evident from the screenshots and promotional material that each area will offer unique activities, side characters, missions, and environmental themes.

Speculated Features

The following features have a high chance of being in-game but can’t be confirmed just yet.

Earbuds on the Go

Both Jason and Lucia are seen wearing earbuds in multiple shots.

This could mean that players will be able to listen to music, radio stations, and potentially podcasts while on foot. They may also be able to answer calls without needing to take out their phones.

Muscle and Weight System

Both Jason and Lucia appear physically fit, with Jason shown bench pressing and Lucia taking part in some form of mixed martial arts training. While it’s difficult to tell for certain, Jason appears noticeably more muscular in some shots than others, which could hint at a muscle-building system similar to the one introduced in GTA: San Andreas.

If so, working out could play an active role in maintaining your physique and preventing weight gain.

Boardable Cruise Ships

A massive Cruise ship can be seen in one of the Vice City screenshots, and Jason and Lucia may be able to board them, whether as part of a mission or simply as an open-world activity.

Enterable Metrorail

A metrorail can be seen in the background of the second trailer, which makes sense given Florida’s real-world public transit systems.

Trains have been a part of GTA for years, but the ability to enter and freely explore a metrorail could be a new feature in GTA 6.

Dynamic Hair Growth System

Jason appears with different facial hair lengths across various screenshots and trailer scenes. Red Dead Redemption 2 featured a dynamic hair growth system that allowed Arthur to grow and style his hair, moustache, and beard over time.

There is a strong possibility that a similar system will return in GTA 6.

Limited Weapon Inventory

While GTA 5 allowed players to carry an entire arsenal at all times, Red Dead Redemption 2 imposed more realistic limitations on weapon carrying capacity. Although players could store weapons on their horse, only a limited selection could be carried at once.

Jason and Lucia can be seen retrieving weapons from the trunk of a vehicle, which could suggest a similar system in GTA 6 where players are restricted in how many weapons they can carry on their person.

Martial Arts

While Lucia can be seen training in what appears to be a mixed martial arts environment, the extent of her abilities remains unclear. It’s possible that spending time training could improve melee combat skills and unlock new combat techniques or abilities.

Drugs

Miami’s party scene has long been associated with drug culture, and Rockstar has already explored drug use and trafficking in previous GTA titles.

GTA 6 could potentially allow players to participate in this side of the criminal underworld as well, especially since Jason is already involved in Brian Heder’s drug-running operation.

Pets

An iguana can be seen hanging around Jason’s home and appears to be treated like a pet. A snake enclosure can also be spotted at their residence in the trailer.

While these details could simply be environmental storytelling, they may also hint at the ability to own and care for pets in GTA 6. Given the increased variety of wildlife and domesticated animals shown so far, including cats, the possibility seems more realistic than ever.

With just two trailers, we’ve barely scratched the surface of what’s coming in GTA 6 as Rockstar aims to deliver its most ambitious title yet. I wouldn’t be surprised if most of these speculated features make it into the final game, along with plenty more that Rockstar has yet to reveal.
