GTA 6 is now just a couple of weeks away from launch, and as expected, it’s a massive game that requires plenty of storage space on your console. Rockstar has officially shared details about the preload, including how much space you’ll need and when you can start downloading the game ahead of release. Here’s everything you need to know.
GTA 6 Preload Date and Time
Rockstar has confirmed that digital pre-loading for GTA 6 will begin on November 10, 2026, for both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. However, the exact start time differs between the two platforms.
| Platform | Preload Date | Preload Time |
|---|---|---|
| PlayStation 5 | November 10, 2026 | 12 AM local time |
| Xbox Series X|S | November 10, 2026 | 12 AM GMT |
GTA 6 Preload File Size
The preload for GTA 6 will require up to 212 GB of storage space, depending on your device.
Since these consoles aren’t exactly loaded with storage, I recommend freeing up some space for GTA 6. Just to be on the safe side, make sure you have around 250 GB of free space on your console before November 10 so you can start downloading as soon as pre-loading becomes available.

GTA 6 Physical Copies (Code-in-Box)
Code-in-box versions of GTA 6 for both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S will begin appearing at retailers on November 12, 2026, a week ahead of launch. Keep in mind that these versions don’t include a physical game disc, so you’ll still have to download the entire game using the included code.
How to Automatically Preload GTA 6
You can enable automatic pre-loading on both the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, but there are a few requirements to keep in mind.
- PlayStation 5: Auto-downloads must be enabled, and the console must either be powered on or in Rest Mode.
- Xbox Series X|S: Automatic updates must be enabled, and the console must either be powered on or in Sleep mode.
If you want GTA 6 ready to play as soon as it launches, make sure these settings are enabled ahead of November 10. Also, bookmark our countdown page to find out exactly when you can start playing.
