Grand Theft Auto 6 is coming out only on consoles first, so gamers already expected the demand for the PlayStation and Microsoft consoles to spike. However, many likely didn’t expect just how many want to play the game in the best possible way. Of course, this means playing it on the PlayStation 5 Pro.
As of September 7, the PS5 Pro has reportedly been out of stock at Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Target, GameStop, and PlayStation Direct in the U.S. Considering how close the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 is, it’s hard to pass this shortage off as a coincidence, especially since the base version is still in stock at multiple retailers.

It’s important to keep in mind that the PS5 Pro is already the most expensive home console right now. It launched at $699.99, but its current official U.S. price is $899.99. The recent stock shortage means that scalpers are bumping up the console’s price, with some scalpers asking $1,300 to $1,500, despite the relatively lower price point.
This shortage happened even though there are over two months left until GTA 6 comes out. The looming question is whether Sony will scramble to meet the demand of fans or if those wanting to play Rockstar’s next game will be forced to buy the base version or resort to paying extra to scalpers.

Will GTA 6 Look and Run Better on PS5 Pro?
Despite many players attempting to secure a PS5 Pro, there’s no confirmation that Grand Theft Auto 6 will run better on it. Gameplay from the game’s extended look was on the base PS5, which suggests that it’s already the baseline for performance. Not to mention, the game is reportedly targeting 30 FPS on consoles, and it’s unknown if the Pro will have any additional enhancements.
Still, the PS5 Pro is significantly stronger than the base PS5. It’s more likely that players want to ensure they don’t face any sort of lag when playing the game, especially considering the realism that Rockstar is hoping to achieve.
