Rockstar has confirmed that GTA 6 features fully functional trains and buses that players can use to travel across Leonida, with the studio putting considerable work into making them a proper means of transportation rather than just background scenery. You can even take them to explore and sightsee if you’re not in a hurry.
As it turns out, these services don’t just work; they actually show up on schedule. GTA 6’s fictional world is already looking more impressive than ours, where getting a bus or train to arrive on time sometimes feels like asking for a miracle.
GTA 6’s Functional Buses and Trains
We already knew from the preview media blowout that GTA 6 features multiple means of travel and fast travel. Buses and trains are part of that overarching system, and you’re allowed to directly interact with them to move around Leonida. However, unlike real life, where buses and trains rarely seem to arrive on time, Rockstar’s Phil Hooker revealed during EDGE Magazine’s cover story that he now spends much of his time waiting for buses and making sure they’re punctual.
“I’m obsessed with making sure they always turn up,” he says. “So, anywhere in the middle of playing, I’ll just go: right, we’re going to get the bus to where we’re going. I’ve memorised all of the routes.”

It’s such a fun insight into the development of Rockstar’s upcoming title and really drives home the studio’s attention to detail, with so many systems coming together to create a believable and interactive world. We don’t often hear about how the team at Rockstar puts these systems together, so any insight into what the developers are working on is always welcome.
With how immersive these bus and train rides sound, though, I’m definitely not skipping the trip. I want to enjoy the rides, hopefully with a cinematic camera similar to Red Dead Redemption 2.
Fully functional and punctual buses and trains might actually be the most unrealistic thing about GTA 6, though, considering how rarely that happens in real life.
