Jason and Lucia are a couple, and anyone who has been paying attention will already know that. In the trailers and Extended Look, we see plenty of evidence of this. When Lucia gets out of prison, she jumps into Jason’s arms. And while this doesn’t necessarily mean a romantic relationship, it’s the logical conclusion to draw.
Some players weren’t happy with the news, preferring to play as single in their GTA 6 experience. Thankfully, Rockstar hasn’t disappointed. So, if you have questions, here’s how the relationship system in GTA 6 works.
Driven by Player Choice

Whether or not you nurture the flame between Jason and Lucia is entirely up to you. If you don’t nurture the relationship, they will eventually break up, and you’re free to live your virtual life free from the burden a relationship might have on your experience.
However, they will stay friends, since it’s crucial to the story that they do maintain some sort of social relationship, according to Rob Nelson, Co-Studio Head at Rockstar North. “They will remain partners in crime.” Nelson says in an interview with IGN, “You will always have the benefit of working together and having each other’s back – whether they’re romantically close or not doesn’t change that.”

How to Nurture the Relationship

Across the previews and interviews with Nelson, we’ve learned that to nurture the relationship between Jason and Lucia, you’ll actually have to work on it. You can go on dates, hold hands during story missions, or even just go rob stores together. It looks as though playing as a couple instead of going solo with either Jason or Lucia will also help build the relationship.
We also learned that Jason and Lucia can simply spend some time together in their safehouse, wherever that might be. We did get confirmation that the couple won’t be able to buy new safehouses, since they’re on the run from the police.
Once we get more information about exactly how the relationship works and what sort of activities are best for nurturing it, we’ll update this article and construct a full guide.
For now, we imagine there will be some kind of background “scoring system” that’ll keep track of the interactions between Jason and Lucia, and once that reaches a low point, the relationship will end. It’s unclear for now whether the relationship can be rekindled again after breaking up.
