Rockstar hasn’t publicly revealed the full GTA 6 cast, but Stephen Root has long been speculated to be the voice behind Brian Heder ever since he appeared in Trailer 2. Root is known for dozens of iconic roles across all forms of media, including Bill Dauterive in King of the Hill, Fuches in Barry, Milton in Office Space, and many more. Today, the actor officially confirmed that he is indeed part of the GTA 6 cast.
Stephen Root Confirms He’s Part of the GTA 6 Cast
During an interview with AP Entertainment regarding his Emmy nomination for Widow’s Bay, the interviewer asked Stephen Root point-blank about the speculation surrounding his involvement in GTA 6, to which he replied, “Yeah, you’re going to see me in there.” Root added that GTA 6 is set to release on November 19 and revealed that his character appeared in the game’s first rollout nearly a year ago. However, he believes the secret was quickly divulged because too many people recognized him from King of the Hill and his voice. Root also expressed how happy he is to be involved with the game, calling it “an amazing thing to look at.”
While Root didn’t specifically say that he’s playing Brian Heder in the interview, he’s very clearly referring to that character. The two have become inseparable in the eyes of fans since Brian’s reveal, with Root’s iconic voice being immediately recognizable throughout the recent Extended Look, where he meets Jason and Lucia alongside his wife, Lori. He also has a fairly similar build to Brian Heder, while the character’s general demeanor is clearly reminiscent of Root’s recent performances.

Given Root’s extensive career, I’m sure he has a bit more freedom to announce his involvement like this, even if Rockstar hasn’t been particularly keen on revealing who plays whom. Despite the speculation, the performers behind both Jason and Lucia have yet to be officially revealed or confirmed.
It remains to be seen when Rockstar will start officially revealing the cast for GTA 6, but this is the first actual confirmation from a known actor about his direct involvement in the title.
