Can You Store Items in Vehicles in GTA 6?

The GTA series has always treated the main character as a walking storage unit, able to pull out practically anything from their pocket universe whenever the situation calls for it. Rockstar started addressing this in Red Dead Redemption 2, making you more conscious of what you can realistically carry in the game world through your personal horse. That system has now been extended to GTA 6 with vehicles. Here’s how vehicle storage works in GTA 6 and why it matters.

Vehicle Storage in GTA 6

In GTA 6, vehicles have dedicated storage that varies by size. Generally, you can store weapons, duffel bags, clothes, and other items in them and access them whenever you need to. Smaller vehicles, such as motorcycles, have limited storage, meaning you can only carry the duffel bag you’re wearing, while larger vehicles can carry more items and duffel bags.

For example, if the cops have a description of your clothing, you can switch to a different outfit using the clothes stored in your personal vehicle. This gives you another way to change your appearance without returning to a safehouse or other location.

You can also store long guns in any vehicle you use, but your personal vehicle carries your entire selected loadout. This makes your personal vehicle function somewhat like Arthur’s horse in Red Dead Redemption 2, giving you access to weapons and equipment that you don’t want to carry on your character at all times.

A temporary vehicle’s loadout isn’t persistent, however. This means you can’t treat every stolen or borrowed vehicle as a permanent extension of your inventory. Your personal vehicle remains the one you can rely on for your full selected loadout. This also means that purchased weapons aren’t lost simply because you aren’t currently carrying them. You can keep your weapons, clothing, and other equipment stored in your vehicle until you need them.

The system could also come in handy during robberies and other activities where you’re carrying loot. Larger vehicles can hold more duffel bags, so you can haul more loot depending on the vehicle you’re using.

Overall, vehicles are much more than a way to get around in GTA 6. They effectively serve as a mobile extension of your inventory, letting you bring extra weapons, clothing, equipment, and loot while keeping your character’s personal loadout more limited. It also means you’ll have to be more deliberate about what you bring to a mission or robbery and what you prefer to keep on hand, rather than constantly dealing with a cluttered weapon wheel.
