Does GTA 6 Have a Weight System?

Rockstar’s focus on realism, routines, and creating a reactive world is a major part of GTA 6, and that extends to both Jason and Lucia. Looking after the two protagonists is part of the experience, with their physical condition changing based on how you play and approach the world. This includes what and how much they eat, as the weight and physique system returns in GTA 6. Here’s everything you need to know.

Weight System in GTA 6

GTA 6 has a dynamic weight system that affects Jason and Lucia’s body weight based on how much they eat.

Eating too much food will cause the characters to gain weight, and eating excessively can eventually make them overweight. However, you’ll need to eat quite a bit before seeing a significant change. Rob Nelson confirmed this while speaking with TGG, explaining, “You get heavy if you eat too much, but you have to actually go eat quite a bit.”

Nelson also discussed the system with Famitsu, confirming that GTA 6 tracks several physical attributes and that players can change their characters’ physiques. “We track statistics including your health level, cardio level and fitness level, and you can make your character muscular or have them eat a lot and become overweight.”

Muscle in GTA 6

Regular exercise and gym workouts can make both Jason and Lucia more muscular and toned. Dazed specifically reported that food affects Jason and Lucia’s weight, while exercising visibly builds and tones their muscles.

Rob Nelson also confirmed the role of gyms and physical progression in an interview with IGN, explaining, “We do have gyms where you can go and work out so you can go up in levels of muscularity or strength. If you overeat, you will put on weight.”

Muscle isn’t permanent, either. If you build up your physique but stop maintaining it, you will eventually lose that muscle. Nelson confirmed this to TGG, saying, “You will lose muscle if you have a lot and you stop maintaining it.”

The workouts aren’t simply cutscenes, either. They’re interactive minigames with multiple exercises, including cardio and strength-focused activities. Nelson told Famitsu, “You have to control the workouts properly, and they’re responsive and make for quite a substantial minigame.” He also confirmed that players can use most of the gym equipment, including gear for exercises like pull-ups.

Consistency is also important. If you work out for three days in a row, your health and strength will level up. Training can also increase your base health and stamina. GTA 6 also tracks your health, cardio, and overall fitness, and training can improve physical attributes like strength and stamina.

Food Buffs

Food isn’t only tied to your character’s weight. Certain food and drinks can also provide temporary gameplay benefits. Nelson explained that “Food provides buffs that strengthen your meters.” For example, he said drinking an energy drink can strengthen your stamina meter.

Protein shakes and protein bars are also part of the workout routine; Nelson explained that after training, players can “round things off with a protein shake and a protein bar.”

Generally, eating too much in GTA 6 can affect your character’s weight, while certain consumables can provide temporary buffs. It’s a system that was originally introduced in GTA: San Andreas and was incredibly impressive for its time, especially with all the activities tied to weight and muscle. In many ways, GTA 6 feels like a spiritual successor to that title, with plenty of immersive elements from Red Dead Redemption 2 sprinkled in for a neat balance.
