GTA 6 is launching on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X, but most pre-release marketing has focused on Sony’s platform, with the trailers and Extended Look recorded on PS5, alongside the announcement of limited-edition GTA 6-themed DualSense controllers. But is it just a visual collaboration, or does GTA 6 actually support the DualSense’s exclusive features? Here’s everything you need to know.

Does GTA 6 Have DualSense Features?

Yes, GTA 6 supports the DualSense’s features, including haptic feedback, an integrated speaker, and adaptive triggers.

PlayStation confirmed that the controller’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers will respond dynamically to on-screen action, while its integrated speaker will add another layer of sound to key moments and interactions. According to PlayStation:

In Grand Theft Auto VI, the DualSense wireless controller’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers instantly respond to the action and provide dynamic resistance, bringing the sights, sounds and sensations of Jason and Lucia’s story to life in your hands.

The controller’s integrated speaker also adds another dimension to key moments and interactions, with sound effects from the controller enhanced by haptic feedback.

If you’re unfamiliar with the DualSense, haptic feedback is essentially a more advanced version of traditional controller rumble. Instead of simply vibrating, it can vary in intensity and feel depending on what’s happening in the game. For example, rain, explosions, footsteps, or different surfaces can produce distinct sensations through the controller.

Adaptive triggers, meanwhile, can dynamically adjust the resistance of the L2 and R2 buttons. This allows you to physically feel different levels of tension when performing certain actions. It’s commonly used with weapons, where pulling the trigger can have varying levels of resistance, but it can also be used for things like drawing a bow or pulling against a rope.

Rockstar has already used these features in GTA 5’s native PS5 version. The game uses haptic feedback and adaptive triggers for a variety of effects, including weapon fire, driving controls, drifting, explosions, damage, weather, and different road surfaces. GTA 5 also uses the controller’s built-in speaker for additional ambient sounds. It’s an impressive implentation that doesn’t feel tacked on either.

While GTA 6 isn’t Rockstar’s first game to use the DualSense, it could take the implementation much further. Unlike GTA 5, which was originally designed for older hardware, GTA 6 is being built specifically for the current generation, giving Rockstar more room to make use of the PS5’s unique controller features.

Every DualSense variant, whether it’s the standard model or the DualSense Edge, supports these features. However, you can also pick up the official GTA 6 Limited Edition DualSense Controller, which comes with exclusive branding and a Vice City-themed finish.
