Will GTA 6 Have Multiple Endings?

Gone are the days of GTA titles having linear endings that aren’t impacted by player choice. GTA San Andreas was the last mainline GTA game to feature a linear ending, with both GTA 4 and GTA 5 having multiple options for how you finish the game.

But even then, those aren’t true multiple endings as you see them in other games, coming down to a simple decision towards the end of the game. So, will GTA 6 finally offer multiple endings that are impacted not by a single click of the button, but by a series of choices you make throughout the game?

Here’s my take.

GTA 6 Could Be the First with True Multiple Endings

Since we’ve been spoiled with so much information following the previews and the Extended Look, we can make a fair guess that GTA 6 won’t just have multiple endings, but will also have them in a greater capacity than before.

In GTA 4, we could choose between two missions that gave us different outcomes in the end. Both kill off prominent characters, but nothing leading up to the choice changes anything. It’s still, in a way, a set of two linear endings. In GTA 5, we get upgraded to three different endings, all dependent on a single choice, again. Nothing leading up to the choice changes the choices.

In other, more RPG-style games, the choices you make throughout your playthrough can cause various changes in the endings available to you. In GTA games, it’s always been fairly linear. This time, however, it’s different.

Why GTA 6 Could Have Multiple Endings

The first and most obvious clue we have is Jason and Lucia’s romance. In the previews, Rob Nelson, co-studio head at Rockstar Games, shared a ton of information. Among this info is the fact that if the player doesn’t want to bother with Jason and Lucia’s romance, they don’t have to.

The characters can even break up, but they will remain partners in crime throughout the story either way. One has to imagine, however, that the status of the romance must have some effect on the ending you get. If you’re playing as one character alienated from the other, it would be highly unnatural for the ending to be a happily-ever-after, where Jason and Lucia ride off into the sunset together.

There’s also the GTA 6 honor system, called your “Criminal Profile.” If you’re a bad or excessively violent criminal, your Criminal Profile drops. This does seem to have some effect on gameplay, but it’s not a stretch to imagine it might also influence the outcome of your playthrough.

This is speculation at this point, but you have to admit the evidence so far is strong.

Why GTA 6 Might Not Have Multiple Endings

Rockstar has been a strong advocate for player choice in their games. In GTA 4 and 5, and even RDR 2, you’re given a choice as to which ending you pursue. We might see a similar system implemented in GTA 6, for the simple fact that Rockstar doesn’t want to leave anyone feeling disappointed or regretful after their playthrough.

Perhaps we’ll be able to choose between various options? Such as splitting up for good, getting back together, killing a set of characters to solve a series of problems, etc.
