Grand Theft Auto 6’s extended look gave fans a slew of new information, but it also raised some eyebrows. In particular, the game seemed to be running at 60 FPS. While the consensus is that it looks great, some fans wonder whether the FPS can be bumped up to at least 60. Rockstar Games may not have officially commented on this yet, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some details on the matter.
So, if you’re one of the many wondering whether GTA 6 will run at 30 FPS or 60 FPS, here’s your answer.
Is GTA 6 Going to Run at 30 FPS or 60 FPS?

Fortunately for fans, the extended look wasn’t their only source of GTA knowledge. Rockstar North reportedly invited a handful of content creators to their office to show them a version of the game, and one of those creators was the Brazilian creator Davy Jones.
While there, Rockstar North head of development and co-studio head Rob Nelson reportedly told Davy Jones that the console version was running at 30 FPS during development. Naturally, the YouTuber asked whether the game would be locked at 30 FPS, to which Nelson said he would need to consult the technical team to determine whether there would even be a 60 FPS option, at least at launch.

The nearly 27-minute extended look that Rockstar showed fans was also captured entirely from the PS5 version. This footage pushed the 30 FPS question more, since the footage was seemingly running at 30 FPS. Still, it seemed to be running with 4K graphics, so the lower FPS mark would make sense for better visuals.
This means that there’s a chance that there could be a PS5 Pro version that runs with better FPS. However, Rockstar hasn’t commented on this, with even the official GTA 6 website only talking about the console versions of the game with no word about how it’ll run.
Will GTA 6 Get 60 FPS Later On?

There’s a good chance that players will ultimately get to experience the game on 60 FPS, even if the option isn’t available at launch. Even disregarding a potential PS5 Pro version, GTA 6 will ultimately launch for PC, which is likely to have more performance-related options.
Grand Theft Auto 5 was in the same boat, since the game originally launched with locked 30 FPS. The PC version launched with native 60 FPS support, and console players had to wait for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S Expanded and Enhanced upgrade to finally play on 60 FPS Performance Mode.
This isn’t the only feature that Rockstar has potentially locked behind a different version. GTA 6 also won’t launch with a dedicated first-person mode, but if we’ve learned anything from GTA 5, then there’s a good chance that Rockstar will want to eventually release it for a future version of the game.
