GTA 6 Extended Look Premieres on Netflix August 27, YouTube Release Follows Later

After weeks of waiting, anticipation, and daily rumors, Rockstar has finally shared an update on GTA 6, and it’s certainly an interesting one. Instead of relying on PlayStation or Xbox to market the game, the studio will debut an extended look at the highly anticipated title on Netflix later this month, on August 27, 2026, at 3 PM ET.

If you aren’t subscribed to Netflix, don’t worry. The same Extended Look will also be available on the official Rockstar Games YouTube channel at 9 PM ET later that day.

It’s a pretty unconventional move for Rockstar Games. Historically, the studio has unveiled its biggest trailers on YouTube and its existing social media accounts, while PlayStation or Xbox has handled the broader marketing push behind the scenes and on their own channels. Rockstar has also preferred to control how it communicates with fans on their own terms and schedule, avoiding major events like E3 when revealing new trailers for its biggest releases. Choosing Netflix as the premiere destination, even for just a few hours, likely reflects a desire to reach audiences beyond its core gaming fanbase. Netflix will almost certainly treat the Extended Look as a major event and ramp up the promotion in the days leading up to its debut.

It’s a six-hour exclusive period for Netflix, but I wager it’ll be uploaded to YouTube by different channels soon after its debut anyway. You have to wonder what this deal means in the long term. Could it lead to more Rockstar Games marketing and promotional material appearing on the streaming service, or even signal that the GTA universe might expand into other forms of media? Previously, Rockstar Games made the Definitive Trilogy available on Netflix for a limited time, so this isn’t exactly the first time the two companies have worked together.

Specifically calling it an Extended Look also suggests this won’t be a typical trailer and will likely feature gameplay in some capacity. At the very least, I’m expecting a narrated showcase that offers a closer look at the world, its possible systems, and characters Rockstar has been developing over the past few years.
