GTA 6 is set to launch on consoles on 19 November, and while that’s still a while away, fans are desperate to know more about the game.

Hence, we’ve collected all we can from the currently available official sources regarding the story in GTA 6. There is a little speculation thrown in, but for the most part, this is a grounded, realistic write-up.

So, without further ado, here’s everything confirmed in the GTA 6 story.

The deck is stacked against our duo

Jason and Lucia both came from humble beginnings, with Rockstar confirming that “The deck is stacked against them.” Lucia’s time in prison likely made things even harder for both of them, but after a stroke of luck gets her out, the duo can start to build a life together.

In a scene from trailer 2, we see Lucia arrive home in a high-visibility top, pointing towards some form of legitimate job. This might be our duo’s attempt to lead a straight life before it all goes to hell. It could just as easily be a setup for a score, or even her community service work, which we can see her doing in the second trailer. The confirmed point is that Lucia does have a legitimate job at some point in the story.

In the official synopsis, we learn that an easy score goes wrong, meaning their crime-free life doesn’t last very long, and the allure of a score does pull them back over. This failed score throws them into a state-wide criminal conspiracy, making it sound like we can expect plenty of back-stabbing and intrigue as we navigate Leonida.

Lucia Caminos – the first female protagonist in GTA

Lucia learned to fight, thanks to her father, as soon as she could walk. Using these very skills is what landed her in the state penitentiary for protecting her family. When she gets out, our duo seems to try an honest life for a while.

She grew up in Liberty City and appears to have been quite poor. Her mother dreamed of a good life (meaning wealthy), and now Lucia wants that life.

This is likely what leads to the failed score we learn about in the official synopsis.

As the first female lead in a GTA game, Lucia adds a brand new dynamic to the series, one we can’t wait to explore.

Jason grew up around grifters and crooks, eventually joining the military. He ends up back where he started after leaving the service – working for drug runner Brian Heder. He lives in a house, rent-free, in Leonida Keys. The house is owned by Brian, and Jason is expected to pay rent by helping Brian with aspects of his business.

We see Jason picking Lucia up from prison in Trailer 2, after which they tear a path across Leonida, getting involved in robberies, gun battles, and more.

Jason seems to be a fairly well-balanced character from what we can tell so far. He is less cynical than characters like Niko and Michael, but more grounded than Trevor. He is, however, the typical tough-guy type, beating up people in the trailer to collect Brian’s money.

Only time will reveal the deeper layers to his already interesting character.

A modern-day Bonnie and Clyde

Everyone who has so much as glanced at trailer 2 has likely already made the connection between our duo and the classic Bonnie and Clyde. It’s not every day you see a couple living a fast-paced life of crime together.

It’s a new dynamic to the GTA formula, which was already shaken up significantly in GTA 5. Even then, however, you could pick a favorite character and easily spend the majority of your in-game time as them.

This new dynamic isn’t three separate stories, but two halves of the same story. It also opens up an avenue to explore the complexities of modern dating. We all know Rockstar’s reputation for drawing parallels between real-life and their games, and GTA 6 is likely to be no different.

Given this duo-approach, we’re very likely to have a far more emotionally heavy story than previous GTA titles, more in line with something like Red Dead Redemption 2.

The supporting cast and their place in the Leonida criminal ecosystem

We have a wealth of information on Rockstar’s official website about the supporting cast so far, and each character description shows more of the world. Here’s what each character reveals about the world of Leonida.

Brian Heder

Brian “looks like a Leonida beach bum – moves like a great white shark.” His description on official Rockstar channels mentions that he is a classic drug runner from the golden age of smuggling. He still moves product through his boat yard with his third wife, Lori.

Jason helps him with some local shakedowns, and in return, Jason lives rent-free at one of his properties. Brian is likely a key player in the sweeping criminal conspiracy we’ll get in GTA 6. He might even turn into an antagonist somewhere along the story, but that’s pure speculation.

Cal Hampton

Cal appears to be Jason’s best friend. He is a conspiracy theorist who enjoys staying home and listening in on Coast Guard radio frequencies, usually with some private browser tabs open. He seems to be pretty tech-savvy and potentially serves as the crew’s intelligence.

He reminds us a lot of Roman from GTA 4. Kind of a harmless, almost helpless type of character. That’s meandering into the realm of speculation again, however, so let’s move on.

Raul Batista

Raul is a seasoned bank robber and thrill seeker. Only, the thrills he seeks are bigger heists with bigger rewards, and far greater risk. This makes him sound like a bit of a loose cannon, and potentially even the instigator of the easy score that goes wrong. However, we don’t see him involved in what appears to be the earlier heists in trailer 2, so it’s likely he only enters the story after the failed score.

Either way, he is a true professional who stays cool under pressure. His only major flaw is that thrill seeker hidden below the cool, calm surface, and that likely spells trouble for our duo at some point.

Boobie Ike

Boobie Ike is a notable businessman in the Vice City area, having got his start in the illicit drug business. He expanded and built himself an empire, and owns real estate, a strip club, and a record label. He has ties with Dre’Quan, who is a drug runner who always dreamed of breaking into music.

Speculation is that Boobie will come at odds with Real Dimez or Dre’Quan at some point, but more on that later.

Dre’Quan Priest

Dre’Quan was, at some point, a dealer on the streets to make ends meet. But his passion was always music, and his intention was always to break into the scene. He has been performing at Boobie’s strip club, the Jack of Hearts, but he has now signed up with Real Dimez, which could very likely point toward some conflict with Boobie, perhaps.

Besides the point of conflict, all of the above is confirmed through Dre’Quan’s official description. What is not clear is when in the story he signs up for Real Dimez, and whether Boobie minds at all. It could also be likely that Boobie is more of a father figure to Dre’Quan and wants the best for him.

Only time will tell.

Real Dimez (Bae-Luxe and Roxy)

Bae-Luxe and Roxy make up the music group dubbed Real Dimez. They had a major hit single around five years before our story in GTA 6 takes off, and they’re looking to repeat that trick. They’re childhood friends and a tough pair of ladies, having been “shaking down local dealers” at some point in their lives.

They signed up with a label called Only Raw Records, presumably before our story begins, but let’s be real, it’s GTA. Their ties to crime won’t be in their past for a while yet. The only question is, will they be friend or foe in the GTA 6 narrative?

The main GTA 6 antagonist – a corrupt cop?

We know from trailer 2 that a corrupt cop likely has a significant hand in the conspiracy that is to unfold in GTA 6. In the trailer, he is seen doing shady-looking deals while also delivering his only line of dialogue: “Us cops gotta stick together.”

We don’t learn his name, nor do we get much additional info about him, so we’re not sure if he’ll fill a major role in the game itself. What we do know is that he’ll feature as an antagonist of some kind. He certainly seems to be a bad dude.

GTA 6 themes – the American dream, trust, and betrayal

Across the trailers and the information available on the official website, one thing is consistent. Most of the cast are chasing the “American dream” in some form or another. Lucia wants the life her mother dreamed of, Dre’Quan is looking to hit it big in music, Jason wants an easy life, and Real Dimez are looking to create another viral hit song.

Characters like Boobie and Brian already seem to have attained a form of the American dream, creating something of a yardstick with which to measure our protagonists’ progress.

There’s also a heavy emphasis on trust in the trailer, with Lucia and Jason’s dialogue pointing towards a moment of potential mistrust. Dating in the criminal world must be pretty complicated, and GTA 6 is set to give us our first glimpse of just what it might be like.

Finally, there’s a strong sense of betrayal surrounding the criminal conspiracy that our duo gets involved in. We can tell that much, but some speculation is that either Lucia or Jason will betray the other, or, far more likely, Brian will play some part in a grave betrayal.

Either way, that’s just speculation, and we’ll have to wait for trailer 3 or the game itself to learn more.

We still have much to learn

The above still admittedly paints a vague picture of what we can expect in GTA 6. There’s a lot we simply don’t know, and while theories run rampant across the internet, we prefer the more grounded take above.

If any further information comes to light, we will update this piece.
